NVIDIA designs the chips and software that power artificial intelligence and sells complete data center systems to cloud providers, AI labs, and other businesses, along with GeForce graphics cards for gamers. Its GPUs, chips that perform thousands of calculations at once, became the main hardware for AI after researchers used them to train the AlexNet image-recognition model in 2012. NVIDIA connects many GPUs with its own processors and networking gear into servers and rack-sized computers, and developers program them through its CUDA software. These systems bring in most of its sales, and it also makes chips for cars and robots. Jensen Huang co-founded NVIDIA in 1993, and it is based in Santa Clara, California.

Elon Musk recently praised Nvidia GPUs as the best available option for AI processing, stating that SpaceX will exclusively use them. Some of those processors will head into space next year on the company's first data center test satellites. SpaceX is raising $40 billion to purchase more Nvidia chips. The deployment will test whether Nvidia's latest processors are ready for the space economy or need enhancements for orbital conditions. Nvidia's market capitalisation is approaching $6 trillion. The chipmaker more than doubled its revenue year over year in its fiscal 2027 second quarter, posting a 62% net profit margin. The company is forecasting 70% revenue growth for fiscal 2028. Nvidia trades at a price-to-earnings ratio of 28.5, below the tech industry average.
Anna Soellner has left her position as head of corporate communications at Nvidia after approximately four months, Business Insider has learned. She joined the chipmaker around June, according to her LinkedIn profile. During her brief tenure, Nvidia announced a nearly $13 billion acquisition of Hugging Face and reported quarterly revenue of $96 billion. Soellner reported to Mylene Mangalindan, Nvidia's vice president of corporate communications. Before Nvidia, Soellner spent over eight years at Reddit as vice president of communications, helping lead the company through its 2024 initial public offering. She previously held senior communications roles at the Motion Picture Association and the Centre for American Progress, and served as a senior adviser at the US Treasury Department. Nvidia did not respond to requests for comment.
Nvidia stock has gained 8.3% since management forecast higher sales for its fiscal third quarter on 26 August 2026, compared with 1.1% for the S&P 500. The stock currently trades at $230.48, above its 50-day and 200-day moving averages, indicating an intact uptrend according to technical analysts. Management forecast third-quarter revenue of $108 billion, approximately 12.5% higher than the second quarter's $96 billion. However, gross margin is expected to decline to 74%, down from 75% in the second quarter, with further compression to 71-72% anticipated in the fourth quarter due to rising memory prices. The next earnings call is scheduled for 17 November. Investors will monitor whether revenue meets targets and if supply constraints ease earlier than expected.
Nvidia has pledged $1 billion over five years to support US scientific research and development, focusing on quantum computing, healthcare, and energy security. The investment will support projects including the Genesis Mission, aimed at driving technological advancement. The commitment was announced at the "Science: A New Golden Age" event in Washington, DC. Nvidia emphasised its role in enhancing super intelligence infrastructure to promote American scientific innovation through continued collaboration with national laboratories. Nvidia's share price closed at $230.48, down 2.9%. The company's advanced computing platforms, including Blackwell and Rubin, are positioned to capitalise on growing AI demand and create significant growth opportunities in the sector.
Nvidia is unlikely to conduct a stock split in 2026, despite reaching new all-time highs. The chipmaker's share price closed at $239 on 6 October, far below the levels of its previous splits — roughly $1,200 for its 10-for-1 split in 2024 and $750 for its 4-for-1 split in 2021. With a market capitalisation of $5.8 trillion, Nvidia would need to grow three to five times larger to justify another split. The company reported $96.2 billion in revenue in Q2 FY 2027, up 106% year over year, with most coming from data centre operations. Instead of splitting shares, Nvidia's board authorised a $150 billion increase to its share repurchase programme in September, bringing the total to $235 billion. The company maintains an estimated 75% share of the AI accelerator market.
