Requirements
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer certification eligibility through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
  • Obstetrics and Gynecology certification through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
  • Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
  • Stand and walk for six to seven hours a day.
  • Lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds of weight.
  • Push the ultrasound machine for portable exams.
  • Differentiate various shades of gray on a black-and-white television monitor or photograph.
  • Follow written and verbal directions in English.
  • Prioritize work tasks and multitask.
Responsibilities
  • Perform a full range of diagnostic ultrasound imaging and therapeutic services and associated patient care supporting the Radiology Department.
  • Plan and perform fetal imaging procedures to produce sonographic medical images for diagnosis or treatment.
  • Detect and monitor pregnancy complications and fetal abnormalities.
  • Review physician requests for procedure information and refer questions to the sonologist or referring physician.
  • Monitor fetal heartbeat, movement, and growth by producing optimal-quality images, and identify fetal sex, weight, and size.
  • Maintain confidentiality of Protected Health Information.
  • Assess patient needs related to comfort, hygiene, and range of motion and provide appropriate support.
  • Educate patients about sonographic procedures and answer their questions.
  • Interact positively with technical, support, nursing, resident, and medical staff to provide Radiology services.
  • Engage in problem solving, crisis management, and systems implementation to support efficient, high-quality, cost-effective patient care.
  • Serve as a clinical instructor for the sonography education program.
  • Evaluate and document student clinical performance fairly, consistently, and promptly according to educational-program guidelines.
  • Maintain professional development in sonographic imaging and techniques.
  • Participate in in-house training and development and apply the resulting skills and knowledge to job performance.
  • Perform imaging techniques, patient care, and guest-relations behaviors according to applicable professional, institutional, regulatory, and Joint Commission guidelines.
  • Report equipment failures immediately after identification.
  • Perform high-level disinfection of ultrasound equipment according to department policy.
  • Work in a clinical setting.
