Requirements
  • A master's degree or higher.
  • Seven to ten years of experience in progressive leadership roles in a comprehensive orthopedic service line business.
  • Ability to orchestrate many responsibilities simultaneously and understand the healthcare industry and its changes.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Well-rounded business acumen and strong organizational skills.
  • Experience developing viable business plans and alternatives, and willingness to support and constructively evaluate new programs.
  • Extensive experience working closely with physicians and the ability to gain trust and credibility.
  • In-depth understanding of orthopedic services.
  • Strategic thinking and ability to assimilate information from varied sources.
  • Strong communication skills, including technical writing, listening, and presentations.
Responsibilities
  • Direct the successful development, implementation, and growth of the orthopedic service line to achieve high-quality outcomes, cost-effective performance, and increased volume and market share.
  • Serve as the administrative liaison for orthopedic service activities, projects, and programs.
  • Work with executive leadership, financial planning, and medical leadership on technology, revenue and reimbursement opportunities, and cost control.
  • Plan, organize, control, direct, and staff department workforce, materials, technology information, and financial resources.
  • Represent the health system in department-related activities and maintain communication among medical staff, interdepartmental directors, and staff.
  • Ensure compliance with the Code of Conduct and compliance policies, resolve compliance concerns, and report suspected violations.
  • Create programs and initiatives to attain and maintain high patient satisfaction scores.
  • Engage stakeholders to develop and execute service line business strategy and performance objectives.
  • Develop goals, objectives, and metrics with service line physicians, managers, and executive leadership.
  • Establish, implement, and maintain policies and procedures for service line departments.
  • Create the annual quality plan with Quality Leadership and service line physicians.
  • Plan and implement process improvement strategies for quality and patient safety.
  • Oversee LEAN initiatives and involvement in rapid improvement events.
  • Develop the annual budget with senior leadership.
  • Monitor operational budget and actual results for cost control and revenue maximization.
  • Create the annual capital plan and recommend capital purchases.
  • Establish relationships and communication channels with medical leadership, departmental managers, health system colleagues, and executive leadership.
  • Identify market opportunities with clinical, executive, Marketing, and Public Relations leadership to grow and develop the service line.
  • Participate in physician recruitment and retention strategies.
  • Direct analysis of operational and financial outcomes, including average length of stay, case mix, utilization, cost per case, and related metrics.
  • Coordinate service line meetings, agendas, minutes, and follow-up activities.
  • Review reimbursement trends and payer contracting strategies with Finance.
  • Establish annual Co-Management Agreement metrics with physicians, executive leadership, and Legal; coordinate meetings and monitor and report monthly metrics.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
