A valid Ontario College of Teachers Certificate is required.
An undergraduate degree is required.
The candidate must be working toward a Bachelor of Education degree.
Knowledge of the culture, traditions, history, and customs of the Anishinaabe people is required.
A current Police Vulnerable Sector Screening, issued within thirty days, is required upon successful selection.
Responsibilities
Prepare lessons for the assigned grade in accordance with the provincial and M'Chigeeng First Nation curriculum.
Collaborate with teaching staff and the Principal to select current and appropriate teaching materials.
Participate in professional activity days, staff meetings, teacher training workshops, professional development days, and language classes.
Promote the Lakeview School and M'Chigeeng First Nation mission and vision statements.
Maintain classroom and school-wide order and discipline while following the approved timetable and schedule.
Support students' self-esteem and teach respect and cooperation.
Build and strengthen relationships with educational partners, the community, staff members, parents, and students.
Model behavior that supports students' understanding of Anishinaabe teachings and fully support Ojibwe language, culture, and traditions.
Report each student's progress to parents or guardians and the Principal through report cards and other means.
Ensure that the learning environment is safe, healthy, and secure.
Meet regularly with the Principal, Teacher Assistant, and language teachers to understand and address student needs.
Maintain attendance and student-progress records.
Develop an appropriate program of studies with staff, submit the ten-month plan to the Principal, and discuss it during the annual evaluation.
Provide support and direction to the Teacher's Assistant, when applicable.
Prepare daily lesson plans and detailed learning materials for periods of absence.
Order classroom supplies and maintain prepared materials, texts, and resources.
Report maintenance and repair items to the Principal.
Individualize programs for students with special needs and collaborate with the Special Education Resource Teacher team.
Help identify students who need special education assistance.
Select and use teaching approaches and materials that support each student's achievement and development.
Treat students equally and fairly.
Participate in and sometimes organize extracurricular activities.
Supervise students at all times while they are at school.
Maintain balance and objectivity when discussing race, politics, or religion.
Lead activities that promote students' physical, mental, and social development and school readiness.
Desired Qualifications
A Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education is preferred.
Two to three years of teaching experience is preferred.
Understanding and fluency in Anishinabemowin is a strong asset; alternatively, the candidate must be willing to learn the language.

Reporting Relationship
The Teacher reports to the Principal or Designate.
Position Summary
Providing educational programming and development to students at Lakeview School. Development of curriculum in accordance with ministry and recommendations from Principal or Director of Education. Interactions with consultants as it pertains to teaching duties. Participate in school events and functions.
Essential Functions
Prepare lessons applicable to Grade assigned and per curriculum as set out by the Province and MFN.
To work together with other members of the teaching staff and Principal to select current, appropriate teaching materials.
To participate in all professional activity days or activities and to continue to pursue their personal education.
Promote the Lakeview School Vision and Mission Statement, along with the MFN mission and vision.
To maintain order and discipline in their classroom and throughout the school and follow the school timetable and schedule as approved by Chief and Council.
To help each student build his/her self-esteem while teaching the students about how to respect and work co-operatively with others.
To work continually at strengthening his/her ties with the school’s educational partners, the community-at-large, his/her fellow staff members, the parents, and his/her students, recognizing the role of each of these groups in the education of the students.
To model behavior in order to help the students with their understanding of wisdom, love, respect, bravery, honesty, humility, truth, and other teachings, and to fully support the Ojibwe Language, Culture and Traditions.
To regularly report each student’s progress to the parent(s)/guardian(s) and the Principal through report cards and other means.
To instill a love of learning while helping the students to recognize that learning is a gradual lifelong process.
To ensure that the learning environment for his/her students is safe, healthy, and secure.
To meet with the Principal, teacher assistant, the Language teachers on a regular basis to make certain that the needs of the students are understood and are being met
To maintain an attendance record (including late), and a record of student progress.
To work closely with others on staff to formulate an appropriate program of studies before the beginning of each school year. In September, the classroom teacher will submit their ten-month plan to the Principal. The plan will be discussed during the annual evaluation.
To provide support and direction to the Teacher’s Assistant in your class (if applicable).
To prepare daily lesson plans, to provide detailed learning materials whenever the teacher is going to be absent.
To order supplies and have on hand prepared materials, texts, and resources for class.
To report maintenance and repair items to the Principal.
To individualize programs to assist students of Special Needs and collaborate with the SERT Team.
To help identify students who need Special Education assistance.
To seek and to employ the teaching approaches and the materials that will enable each of his/her students to attain their highest level of achievement and development.
To care for his/her students treating them equally and fairly.
To participate in extra-curricular activities and, at times, to help organize those activities.
To ensure that students are supervised at all times while at school.
To maintain balance and objectivity when topics such as race, politics or religion arise

Qualifications and Requirements
Preferred:
Bachelor of Arts & Bachelor of Education with at least 2-3 years of teaching experience.
Minimum,
Valid Ontario College of Teachers Certificate and Undergraduate Degree.
Must be working to attain Bachelor of Education Degree.
Must have knowledge of the culture, traditions, history, and customs of the Anishinaabe people.
Understanding and fluency in Anishinabemowin is a strong asset; or must be willing to learn the language
