Responsibilities
  • Set up, adjust, and operate manual and/or CNC mills, lathes, and related machining equipment to manufacture, modify, and rework precision components.
  • Collaborate with the Production Lead, Supervisor, and Manufacturing Engineers to evaluate unit readiness, address fitment issues, and resolve process deviations.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and work instructions to determine machining requirements, dimensions, and tolerances.
  • Select appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and machining methods to complete assigned work.
  • Perform turning, milling, drilling, boring, tapping, and other required machining operations.
  • Inspect completed work using precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and gauges, to verify conformance with specifications.
  • Identify and troubleshoot machining issues, dimensional discrepancies, and equipment concerns, escalating problems when necessary.
  • Transition between machining tasks and production assembly duties during downtime to support cell throughput and continuous manufacturing flow.
  • Assemble compressors and/or their subassemblies according to customer needs, following blueprints and other written and verbal specifications, and provide quality, on-time assembly of compressors, generators, and associated parts.
  • Maintain plant facilities and equipment as directed, including painting, general cleaning, and basic building maintenance.
  • Participate in cross-training within the Production Department.
  • Set up and test-run completed machines.
  • Adhere to safety policies and practices, and support 5S, lean manufacturing initiatives, and continuous improvement processes to enhance quality, cell efficiency, and shop safety.
  • Maintain accurate records, job tracking sheets, inspection logs, and ERP system updates.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Desired Qualifications
  • Certificate in CNC Machining, Machining Manufacturing Technologies, or an equivalent combination of education from a technical school or vocational training program.
  • Experience working within an ERP tracking system for job tracking.
  • Prior experience in both production machining and mechanical unit assembly within a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing layout.
  • Experience in the manufacturing, assembly, or reconditioning of high-pressure air/gas compressors, pumps, or cryogenic equipment.

About the company

RIX Industries designs and manufactures high-pressure compression, cryogenic, and gas-generation systems for aerospace, defense, and energy markets. Its products include oil-free high-pressure compressors that safely deliver gases like oxygen, and integrated cryogenic and gas-generation systems used in Navy applications and clean-energy projects. The company stands out thanks to a long private, family-owned heritage focused on niche, mission-critical gas equipment, deep specialization in high-pressure oil-free technology, and a history of serving the U.S. Navy plus strategic acquisitions such as Qdrive. Its goal is to be a global leader in reliable, high-performance compression, cryogenic, and gas-generation solutions for customers from aerospace to clean energy.

What believers are saying

  • RIX opened the 14,000-square-foot Otterson Center in December 2025.
  • RIX won a 2024 Navy contract for 25 Virginia-class submarine compressors.
  • RIX won a 2025 DOT SBIR for WESATIS, expanding beyond defense.

What critics are saying

  • NAVSUP and submarine programs concentrate revenue, so any Navy slowdown hits hard.
  • Qdrive integration across cryogenics and compressors risks distraction through 2026.
  • If the Navy shifts to competitors, RIX loses its core historical moat.

What makes RIX Industries unique

  • RIX has supplied U.S. Navy compressors since 1911, creating unmatched defense credibility.
  • Qdrive adds cryogenic IP for Navy aircraft carriers and industrial gas systems.
  • The Otterson Center accelerates prototyping, testing, and custom engineering near Benicia headquarters.
