Requirements
  • Staff-level product engineering judgment across backend behavior, API shape, data model, UI flow, and operational reality.
  • Experience owning meaningful projects from ambiguity to production, including sequencing, tradeoffs, rollout, and follow-through.
  • Strong technical depth in backend, full-stack, platform, infrastructure, or developer-tooling systems.
  • Excellent debugging instincts across application code, APIs, databases, background jobs, cloud infrastructure, observability, and third-party integrations.
  • Developer empathy for clear APIs, intuitive command-line interfaces, useful documentation, actionable errors, and workflows that feel fast and trustworthy.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, handle disagreement constructively, and help a remote team make better decisions.
  • Typically, 7+ years of production engineering experience, or equivalent depth in product, platform, infrastructure, or developer tools.
Responsibilities
  • Own product work across the web console, APIs, command-line interface, GitHub integrations, billing and usage, permissions, documentation, and internal tools.
  • Turn ambiguous customer pain into clear product and technical plans, then carry them through design, implementation, rollout, and measurement.
  • Improve developer-facing workflows for continuous integration, container builds, cache, registry, runners, setup, logs, errors, and integrations.
  • Design APIs and data models that are consistent, understandable, and safe to evolve.
  • Debug production issues across services, databases, Amazon Web Services infrastructure, integrations, and customer environments.
  • Raise the engineering bar through design documents, code review, mentorship, and calm technical leadership.
Desired Qualifications
  • Helpful background includes continuous integration systems, GitHub Actions, build tooling, Docker, BuildKit, remote caching, authentication, single sign-on, billing, or observability.
  • Direct experience with TypeScript, Go, React, protobuf or gRPC-style APIs, MySQL or PlanetScale, ClickHouse, Amazon Web Services, and OpenTelemetry.

Depot.dev speeds up Docker image builds by moving the build process to a cloud-based service. It claims builds can be up to 40x faster than traditional methods, enabling developers to create Docker images more quickly. The service integrates into existing workflows and can be used from a terminal or through CI providers like GitHub Actions, making it easy to incorporate into current development pipelines. It sells access through a subscription model with scalable options, targeting software developers, DevOps teams, and IT departments across industries. Depot.dev’s main differentiator is its focus on accelerating Docker image construction and its seamless integration with standard tools, rather than generic cloud computing offerings. The company’s goal is to reduce build bottlenecks, shorten development cycles, and help teams bring features to market faster by improving productivity and deployment speed.

Simplify Jobs

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Depot raised $10M on 2026-03-10 from Felicis, Y Combinator, and Pioneer Fund.
  • Depot's July 2026 customer page names PostHog, PlanetScale, Jane, and People Data Labs.
  • Depot's March 2026 announcement says thousands of engineering teams use its platform.

What critics are saying

  • If GitHub bundles Depot-like runners into Actions by 2027, Depot loses its standalone wedge.
  • Depot CI launched in 2026, so enterprise buyers must trust a young platform before migrating workflows.
  • Build acceleration is a feature, not a moat; Buildkite and CircleCI target the same budget.

What makes Depot unique

  • Depot CI unifies container builds, GitHub Actions runners, remote caching, and agent sandboxes.
  • Ultra Runners, launched 2024-10-16, deliver up to 3x faster GitHub Actions jobs.
  • Depot's July 2026 docs show one-line migration and custom runner images for businesses.

Cursor Origin: code hosting rollout for paid plans.

Cursor Origin: code hosting rollout for paid plans. 2h ago · 0:00 listen · Source: TestingCatalog AI News Summary. Cursor is rolling out Origin, a new code-hosting service built directly into Cursor. This early beta began on August 17, 2026, for users on all paid plans, excluding enterprise organizations that opt out. Origin offers repositories, pull requests, code browsing, and GitHub sync, allowing users to store code and review changes in one place. Users can also access Cursor agents within Origin. A new Codebase tab serves as the entry point for Origin repositories. Teams can connect and sync GitHub projects, keeping GitHub as the source of truth. Comments made in Cursor on synced projects will appear on GitHub. What's interesting is that agents sit alongside the code and pull requests, enabling users to ask questions or request changes. Cursor is also building an app ecosystem around Origin, with initial integrations like Vercel, Depot, and Buildkite. The bottom line is that this aims to provide a unified platform for code management and collaboration. This is an AI-generated audio summary. Always check the original source for complete reporting.
