About the job

Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required; an advanced degree such as an MBA is a plus.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in management consulting, corporate strategy, transformation, program leadership, or HR/people advisory, including leading complex, multi-stakeholder programs end to end; operating model, organization design, or workforce strategy exposure is ideal.
  • Ability to structure open-ended, ambiguous problems, use a hypothesis-driven approach, and develop clear, defensible recommendations with minimal direction.
  • Strong commercial and analytical judgment, including business-case development and investment perspectives; advanced Excel skills and comfort structuring, analyzing, and synthesizing data.
  • Advanced PowerPoint skills and ability to distill complex inputs into concise, executive-ready storylines.
  • High autonomy and ownership, with judgment to determine what to advance independently and when to escalate.
  • Exposure to HR/people functions and technology-enabled change, such as AI, data, or digital initiatives, or a track record of quickly learning an unfamiliar domain.
Responsibilities
  • Operationalize the transformation strategy by translating it into a structured, sequenced agenda and developing prioritization frameworks and recommendations to guide the function’s focus and investment.
  • Own the architecture and discipline of the transformation portfolio by maintaining frameworks, standards, and decision criteria for prioritizing, resourcing, and measuring initiatives, and by maintaining an integrated view of status, dependencies, risks, and value realization.
  • Build the investment case for technology and AI by developing ROI perspectives, market scans, and points of view to inform senior funding and build-versus-buy decisions, in partnership with Tech (BCS/CIS), Finance, and enterprise stakeholders.
  • Develop and operationalize the governance and enablement approach for AI across the People Function, including standards, fluency frameworks, and operating principles that raise maturity across strategy, governance, data, technology/integration, and people/culture.
  • Build credibility and alignment with People Function leadership and enterprise stakeholders, surface trade-offs, and represent the agenda in working- and leadership-level forums.
Desired Qualifications
  • Operating model, organization design, or workforce strategy exposure.
  • High ownership and drive, including pushing work forward independently in a fast-paced, high-expectation environment.
  • Strategic breadth combined with executional grip, including setting an approach and delivering it hands-on.
  • Consulting-grade problem solving: structuring ambiguity, reasoning from hypotheses, and building compelling, evidence-based cases for change.
  • Executive presence and influence to earn senior leaders’ trust and bring others along without formal authority.
  • Focus on adoption and value realization rather than deployment and tracking.
  • Curiosity and hands-on fluency in how AI is reshaping work, with sound judgment to govern and scale it responsibly; AI expertise is not required.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Consulting drives growth: Mercer and Oliver Wyman's group grew 8% organically in the June 2026 quarter, versus 3% for broking.
  • Profits cushion jobs: Marsh kept about 27 cents of operating profit per sales dollar in 2025, before one-time costs.
  • Many career paths under one employer: 95,000+ colleagues span broking, reinsurance, benefits and strategy consulting in 130 countries.

What critics are saying

  • Expect cuts: Thrive, announced October 2025, sets aside $500 million, mostly severance and technology, to save $400 million yearly.
  • Pricing works against broking: Marsh's index shows commercial rates fell 6% in the June 2026 quarter, an eighth straight drop.
  • Back-office roles are being consolidated: a Business and Client Services unit is pooling operations and technology teams company-wide.

What makes Marsh & McLennan unique

  • Consulting is a third of the business: Mercer and the Oliver Wyman group earned 36% of 2025 revenue.
  • Investment management sets it apart: Mercer is the world's largest outsourced chief investment office, running portfolios for institutions.
  • Scale sets it apart: 2025 revenue grew 10% to $27.0 billion across broking, reinsurance and consulting.
