Requirements

Responsibilities
  • Perform manual labor supporting construction, maintenance, and upkeep projects, including moving materials and equipment, digging, grading, compacting, and removing litter and debris.
  • Use safety equipment and protective gear; monitor the work environment and traffic conditions; direct traffic and place work-site markers, signs, and cones; and report incidents or unsafe conditions.
  • Perform manual work for street, roadway, drainage, solid waste collection, processing, and disposal projects, including installing and repairing sidewalks, curbs, gutters, culverts, pipes, asphalt, concrete, potholes, and reflective street markers.
  • Perform construction and maintenance tasks for sanitation, water, sewer, and stormwater systems, including repairing sewer taps and drainage features, assisting with jet-vac equipment, replacing water meters and components, and mixing cement.
  • Perform grounds and roadside maintenance, including mowing, pruning, planting, watering, clearing debris, spreading materials, applying fertilizer, pesticides, and herbicides, and applying salt or sand in icy weather.
  • Perform building maintenance, including cleaning facilities, maintaining floors, troubleshooting basic plumbing and electrical problems, replacing lights and ballasts, painting, repairing roofing, installing tile, and pressure-washing surfaces.
  • Assist with special event setup and cleanup, holiday decorations, and event traffic control.
  • Operate machinery, equipment, and tools used for department projects, including mowers, saws, jackhammers, blowers, pumps, hand tools, measuring instruments, and two-way radios.
  • Clean, inspect, and maintain equipment and tools; check or replace fluids, refuel vehicles, perform minor repairs, grease equipment, sharpen blades, replace parts, and report faulty equipment.
  • Gather equipment, tools, parts, and supplies; ensure materials are available and request new or replacement materials as needed.
  • Prepare or complete forms, reports, correspondence, checklists, work orders, service tickets, meter readings, smoke test reports, and equipment maintenance records.
  • Receive, review, process, forward, or retain work orders, routes, reports, schedules, diagrams, guides, labels, maps, policies, procedures, manuals, and other documentation.
  • Communicate with supervisors, departments, employees, customers, the public, outside agencies, and others to coordinate work, exchange information, review work status, and resolve problems.
