Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A valid driver's license and clean driving record for the last three years are required.
  • Candidates must commit full time for six months from mid-May to December.
  • Candidates must be able to lift 75 or more pounds.
  • Candidates must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Candidates must be able to work overtime and weekends as necessary.
  • Candidates must complete a pre-employment drug screen, criminal background check, and motor vehicle history report.
  • Candidates working toward an engineering degree or construction management are preferred.
  • Experience driving a pickup truck or other large vehicle is preferred.
  • Some work-related experience in landscaping, construction, farming, or a similar area is preferred.
  • Mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving skills are preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Perform testing on construction materials, including soils, concrete, masonry, and asphalt.
  • Conduct onsite materials testing on commercial and transportation construction projects.
  • Work with project managers and other technicians to ensure specifications are followed.
  • Gain field experience and communicate onsite with construction crews.
  • Complete training in construction safety, soil compaction and classification, American Concrete Institute certification, radiation safety, materials laboratories, and nuclear density gauge operation.
  • Learn procedures and gain exposure to ASTM, AASHTO, ACI, ICC, and DOT standards.
Desired Qualifications
  • Related work experience is preferred, although top applicants can be trained.
