Requirements
- Graduation from high school or a GED is required.
- Certification by the American Association of Medical Assistants, American Medical Technologists, National Healthcareer Association Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, National Certified Medical Assistant, or American Registry of Medical Assistants is required.
- Basic Life Support certification is required.
- Level I requires no experience.
- Level II requires one year of clinical experience as a certified Medical Assistant in a clinical setting.
Responsibilities
- Perform patient intake, including vital signs, visit information, and other indicated clinical information.
- Take telephone messages from patients, document encounters, follow clinic protocols, and inform providers.
- Administer medications as ordered by providers or established protocols while following the six rights of medication administration.
- Participate in performance improvement projects.
- Set up clinical procedures and perform high-level disinfection, sterilization, and other appropriate tasks within the scope of practice.
- Obtain prior authorizations for medications and durable medical equipment as indicated.
- Float within the clinic to cover patient and provider needs as delegated by the nurse manager, health center administrator, charge nurse, or nurse team lead.
Desired Qualifications
- Graduation from a Medical Assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools is strongly preferred.
