Job Description
Position Summary:
The Epic Certified Systems Administrator manages the underlying infrastructure and system-level configuration of the Epic environment. This role is responsible for the day-to-day stability, performance, and maintenance of Epic's core systems, working closely with application teams, database administrators, and Epic technical services. The ideal candidate has deep knowledge of Epic’s architecture, a proactive approach to systems administration, and a commitment to high reliability in a clinical technology setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer and maintain Epic environments, including Hyperspace, Interconnect, Chronicles, Cache/Iris, and other Epic-related components.
- Coordinate and implement Epic upgrades, system updates (SUs), hotfixes, and environment refreshes in collaboration with Epic application teams.
- Ensure system availability, performance, and capacity planning, with 24/7 monitoring and incident response protocols as needed.
- Manage Epic user session performance, backend processes, and scheduled jobs to optimize system operations.
- Maintain Epic's infrastructure components in collaboration with server, network, and security teams.
- Serve as the primary technical contact with Epic Technical Services (TS) for infrastructure and platform-related issues.
- Oversee interface engine administration (e.g., Bridges, Interconnect), certificate management, and API/HL7 connections as they relate to Epic systems.
- Ensure backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity plans are tested and functioning for all Epic-related systems.
- Document all configuration changes, processes, procedures, and systems diagrams related to Epic infrastructure.
- Support change control processes and work closely with Release Managers and Data Courier leads during coordinated releases.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Epic Systems Administrator Certification required.
- 3+ years of experience in Epic infrastructure or systems administration.
- Strong knowledge of Epic’s architecture, including Chronicles, Interconnect, Hyperspace, and Cache/Iris.
- Proficiency in Windows server environments; experience with virtualization (e.g., VMware).
- Familiarity with Active Directory, DNS, load balancing, and certificate management.
- Solid understanding of IT security principles, HIPAA compliance, and healthcare systems support.
- Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a large health system or academic medical center.
- Familiarity with monitoring tools (e.g., System Pulse).
- Experience supporting Citrix-based Epic access or end-user delivery platforms.
- Working knowledge of automation/scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Bash).
