About the job

Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline is required.
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in software or platform engineering, technical delivery leadership, or engineering management is required; 9+ years is acceptable with an MS/MBA, and 7+ years with a PhD. Experience must include accountability for engineering across a portfolio rather than a single application.
  • Demonstrated experience leading, hiring, and developing engineering teams at scale, including matrix leadership of vendor and contract resources across multiple geographies.
  • Hands-on grounding in cloud platform engineering, integration architecture, and modern software engineering practice, including practical experience with continuous integration and delivery, infrastructure as code, automated testing, and security in the pipeline.
  • Experience delivering and operating across software as a service, commercial off-the-shelf, and custom-developed solutions, including vendor platform configuration, extension, and upgrade management.
  • Strong experience with Agile ways of working.
  • Knowledge of financial management and procurement activities, including managing complex budgets, vendor contracts, and internal-versus-partner capacity decisions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to influence senior technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to travel occasionally, up to 20%, and meet virtually across regions and time zones, including occasional out-of-hours work for deployment go-lives and hypercare.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical or another highly regulated manufacturing environment, including GxP computerized system validation, data integrity, and inspection readiness.
  • Experience automating validation and compliance evidence within continuous integration and delivery pipelines in a regulated context.
  • Working knowledge of quality or environmental, health, and safety platforms and their integration landscape, such as Veeva, LIMS, Cority, or Enablon.
  • Experience engineering or operating artificial intelligence and data capability in production in partnership with architecture and data functions.
  • Demonstrated success leading technology rationalization, platform consolidation, or large-scale migration programs.
  • Recognized cloud or architecture certification.
Responsibilities
  • Own the strategy, engineering, and lifecycle of the shared technical foundation for Digital Quality, including cloud footprint, runtime platforms, shared services, reusable components, developer tooling, and non-production environments.
  • Build the foundation as a product used by delivery teams across the portfolio, with defined service levels, roadmaps, adoption measures, and a managed path for retiring legacy and duplicated technology.
  • Provide engineering leadership and design accountability across software-as-a-service, commercial off-the-shelf, and custom-built solutions, establishing how platforms are configured and extended, products are deployed and integrated, and in-house applications are designed, built, and maintained.
  • Ensure engineering rigor, supportability, and consistent quality across delivery models, and prevent unmanaged customization that undermines upgradability and cost of ownership.
  • Own the integration and data engineering layer connecting Digital Quality solutions to each other and to the broader enterprise landscape, including manufacturing, laboratory, enterprise resource planning, and enterprise data platforms.
  • Establish reusable integration patterns, interfaces, and data contracts, and ensure integrations are resilient, monitored, documented, and compliant with data integrity requirements.
  • Define and run the engineering operating model for Digital Quality, covering source control, continuous integration and delivery pipelines, automated testing, security scanning, infrastructure as code, and environment and release management.
  • Drive automation of validation and compliance evidence to improve release frequency, deployment reliability, and lead time without weakening GxP control.
  • Own the release calendar and change governance across the portfolio, including coordination of platform vendor release cycles.
  • Hold strategic technology vendors, systems integrators, and managed service partners accountable for engineering quality, delivery commitments, security posture, and service performance.
  • Shape sourcing strategy and the internal-versus-partner capability mix, define technical standards and acceptance criteria in statements of work, and manage capacity and demand across internal and external engineering teams.
  • Act as the principal interface between Digital Quality and enterprise technology functions, ensuring solutions adopt enterprise platforms, standards, and services rather than building parallel capability.
  • Influence enterprise roadmaps, standards, and investment decisions on behalf of the QSEO domain, and represent Digital Quality in enterprise architecture, cybersecurity, and technology governance forums.
  • Lead, develop, and grow a global engineering team of approximately 8–10 direct reports across platform engineering, solution architecture, integration and data engineering, DevSecOps, and release management, alongside matrixed and contract resources.
  • Build engineering capability, talent pipelines, and succession plans; set technical performance expectations and career pathways; and foster engineering excellence, automation, innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement across Digital Quality.
  • Ensure the technical foundation and all solutions built on it remain validated and compliant with governance, risk and compliance guidelines, computerized system validation expectations, data integrity, data privacy, and cybersecurity requirements.
  • Maintain audit and inspection readiness for engineering processes and evidence, support internal audits and regulatory inspections, and balance innovation with regulatory compliance through governance and risk management.
Desired Qualifications
  • Strong experience with Agile ways of working; SAFe is preferred.
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical industry or another highly regulated manufacturing environment, including GxP computerized system validation, data integrity, and inspection readiness.

About the company

Pfizer discovers, makes, and sells prescription medicines and vaccines for patients, doctors, and governments worldwide, with large businesses in vaccines, cancer, heart disease, and rare diseases. In 2020, its COVID-19 shot, developed with German partner BioNTech, became the first COVID-19 vaccine authorized in the United States. Its scientists find drug candidates and run clinical trials to prove they are safe and effective, and Pfizer then manufactures approved products in its own plants, earning most of its money from patented drugs before cheaper generic copies arrive. Pfizer was founded in 1849 as a chemicals business in Brooklyn and is based in New York City.

What believers are saying

  • Newer drugs carry the business: launched and acquired products grew 18% operationally in Pfizer's August 2026 quarterly report.
  • The outlook improved: in August 2026, Pfizer raised its 2026 revenue guidance to $60.5 billion to $62.5 billion.
  • Vaccine scientists get room to grow: Pfizer's $470 million Pearl River, New York research expansion is designed for 370 workers.

What critics are saying

  • Expect more site cuts: in November 2025, Pfizer moved to shrink Swiss staff from about 300 to roughly 70.
  • Generics will erase sales: Pfizer expects patent losses to cut $17 billion to $18 billion of yearly revenue through 2028.
  • Pfizer is chasing obesity leaders: Metsera's monthly shot showed 12.3% weight loss at 28 weeks in February 2026 data.

What makes Pfizer unique

  • Pfizer bought its way into cancer: its Seagen buyout added antibody-drug conjugates, which carry chemotherapy straight to tumors.
  • Pfizer is betting on monthly obesity shots: Metsera's berobenatide is dosed once a month, unlike weekly Wegovy and Zepbound.
  • Pfizer leans on one partnered heart drug: blood thinner Eliquis, sold with Bristol Myers Squibb, brings about 14% of revenue.

Pfizer announces layoffs at Rocky Mount and Sanford sites, but gives no numbers

Pfizer has announced layoffs at its Rocky Mount and Sanford facilities in North Carolina, as part of a push to improve efficiency. It told employees of the cuts on Tuesday but did not say how many jobs will go, when, or in which departments. Rocky Mount makes sterile injectables, while Sanford focuses on vaccines and advanced biologics, including gene therapies. "Headcount reductions are a part of this initiative," Pfizer said, adding that it will give affected staff support services. "If indeed this happens, it's going to affect those families," said David Farris, president and chief executive officer of the Rocky Mount Area Chamber of Commerce. The impact on local economies, he said, depends on the number laid off. As of Wednesday afternoon, no Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice had been filed with the state.

GSK beats Pfizer as dividend stock: 39% payout vs 89% of free cash flow

GSK looks the better dividend stock than Pfizer, according to a comparison of the two drugmakers, which both face major patent losses before 2030. Pfizer yields 6.3% and GSK 4.1%. Over the twelve months to June 2026, Pfizer paid out 89% of its free cash flow in dividends ($9.79 billion of $10.98 billion), against 39% at GSK (£2.67 billion of £6.90 billion). Pfizer's chief executive officer, Albert Bourla, said the dividend will be maintained even in "the most stretched scenarios." Pfizer raised its 2026 revenue guidance to $60.5 billion to $62.5 billion. GSK raised its dividend 17.6% in fiscal 2025 after an earlier cut, and Q2 2026 sales rose 5%. Its main risk is debt: net debt rose to £22 billion after the Nuvalent acquisition.
