Oshkosh Defense partners with Grid Aero to mass-produce autonomous Lifter aircraft

Oshkosh Defense and Silicon Valley-based Grid Aero have announced a partnership to bring autonomous modular payload aircraft into production for US defence needs. Oshkosh will help with design for manufacturability, production planning, and supply chain optimisation, and ultimately build Grid Aero's Lifter aircraft at scale. Production will use Oshkosh's Wisconsin facilities and workforce. The Lifter is simple, rugged, and piston-powered, and built from ubiquitous materials, said Arthur Dubois, chief executive officer of Grid Aero. The partnership responds to the Department of War's call for low-cost Group 4 and 5 unmanned aircraft that can be bought in quantity and adapted across missions. Initial work focuses on production engineering, design for manufacturing, and customer engagement. The goal is to show production-ready autonomous logistics aircraft to defence customers.

Oshkosh reports 5.7% sales growth in Q3 2026 as earnings decline.

Oshkosh reports 5.7% sales growth in Q3 2026 as earnings decline. 29 October 2026 - 19:16 According to Oshkosh Corporation, third-quarter 2026 sales increased 5.7% year-on-year to $2.84 billion, while net income declined to $138.4 million from $196.2 million. The company also reported lower revenue and operating income in its Transport segment, which includes defence vehicles. Oshkosh reported operating income of $197.1 million for the quarter, down 24.3% from $260.4 million in the same period of 2025. Diluted earnings per share decreased to $2.22 from $3.04. The company's Transport segment recorded revenue of $562 million, a decline of 4.4% year-on-year, while operating income fell to $8.2 million from $36.6 million. According to Oshkosh, the decline in Transport revenue was primarily due to the impact of a Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV)-related intellectual property licensing agreement with the US government in the third quarter of 2025. The company's financial tables also showed that defence sales within the Transport segment decreased to $301.2 million from $441.6 million a year earlier. Meanwhile, Oshkosh's Access segment reported sales growth of 20.7% to $1.34 billion, while Vocational segment sales declined 7% to $899.9 million. Following production challenges in its fire apparatus business, Oshkosh revised its full-year 2026 sales outlook to approximately $11 billion and lowered its adjusted earnings per share guidance to between $8.50 and $9.50.

Why Oshkosh (OSK) stock is down today.

Why Oshkosh (OSK) stock is down today. Radek strnad /. October 29, 2026 What happened? Shares of specialty vehicles contractor Oshkosh (NYSE:OSK) fell 6.4% in the morning session after the company lowered its 2026 outlook due to reduced fire truck manufacturing throughput and reported a 24.3% decline in quarterly operating income. According to a company press release, Oshkosh reported that third-quarter consolidated sales increased 5.7% to $2.84 billion and adjusted diluted earnings per share reached $2.41. However, operating income fell 24.3% to $197.1 million. Reduced fire truck manufacturing throughput forced management to trim full-year expectations. For specialty vehicle makers, manufacturing inefficiencies can dampen profit margins and slow deliveries, raising investor concern about near-term profitability despite top-line sales growth. After the initial drop, the shares shed some of the losses and rose to $132.98, down 3.6% from the previous close. The stock market overreacts to news, and big price drops can present good opportunities to buy high-quality stocks. Is now the time to buy Oshkosh? Access our full analysis report here, it's free. What is the market telling us. Oshkosh's shares are quite volatile and have had 16 moves greater than 5% over the last year. In that context, today's move indicates the market considers this news meaningful but not something that would fundamentally change its perception of the business. The biggest move we wrote about over the last year was 12 months ago when the stock dropped 5.7% on the news that the company reported disappointing third-quarter results, missing revenue expectations and lowering its full-year guidance for both sales and earnings. While the company's earnings per share for the quarter were slightly ahead of forecasts, its revenue of $2.69 billion fell 1.9% from the same period last year and came in below what analysts had predicted. The company also reduced its full-year sales forecast to $10.35 billion at the midpoint, down from its prior estimate of $10.6 billion. Similarly, the outlook for adjusted earnings per share was also lowered. This downward revision in the company's outlook signaled to investors that challenges were expected to continue. Oshkosh is flat since the beginning of the year, and at $132.98 per share, it is trading 25.3% below its 52-week high of $177.94 from February 2026. Investors who bought $1,000 worth of Oshkosh's shares 5 years ago would now be looking at an investment worth $1,243. ALSO WORTH WATCHING: Nvidia's Quiet Partner. Nvidia's chips cost a hundred grand. Solid 3rd quarter for JLG. Oshkosh, owner of JLG, Hinowa and Ausa, has published mixed result for the nine months to the end of September, but a strong third quarter. Access Revenues Total revenues for the nine months increased 10% to $3.66 billion, made up as follows: Aerial work platforms - $1.82 billion +11% Telehandlers - $791 million - (4.7%) Other revenues - $1.04 billion +23% Total - $3.66 billion +10% Operating profit dropped 27.5% to $33.2 million, the second year running for declines. The backlog/order book at the end of September more than tripled (x 3.7) to $2.66 billion, compared to a 66.5% plunge at the same point last year. Full Year forecast The company is forecasting full year revenues for JLG of $4.8 billion, which would represent a seven percent increase on 2025. Third Quarter Third quarter sales, improved 20.7% to $1.34 billion, thanks to higher sales volume in North America and higher pricing This is made up as follows: Aerial work platforms - $658.3 million +18.3% Telehandlers - $320 million +22.7% Other revenues - $361 million +23.6% Total - $1.34 billion +20.7% Operating profit Third quarter operating profit jumped 23.5% to $145.7 million, due to higher sales volume, "offset in part by adverse sales mix and higher incentive compensation accruals". Oshkosh numbers Oshkosh as a whole saw nine months revenues increase 4.4% to $8.07 billion, while pre-tax profit nosedived 31.5% to $452.3 million. Oshkosh chief executive John Pfeifer said: "Our results reflected challenges arising from our transformation of fire truck production. Improvements in throughput are taking longer than previously expected." "Its Access segment during the third quarter, reflecting strong customer demand and improved execution, Vertikal Comment Overall, this is a pretty decent set of numbers from JLG, which is benefiting from tariffs in the USA, while also making a comeback in much of Europe. With a massive increase in its backlog, the company looks set for a great 2026. One has to wonder, though, how its telehandler performance stacks up against the competition. From a distance, it looks as though companies such as Magni, Manitou, JCB and even the Chinese are taking some market share away. But that is not based on hard facts - more on feedback from those in the industry and gut feel. In spite of this, the company is on course to exceed sales of $5 billion in 2027, for the first time since 2024. Revenues in 2023 were $4.9 billion, the first year with Hinowa on board. All in all, another positive result.
