  • A medical degree and two years of direct or internship experience are required.
  • A current medical license in the state of Michigan is required.
  • A current Drug Enforcement Administration and Department of Public Safety Certificate of Registration is required.
  • The physician must maintain all requirements for medical staff privileges.
  • The physician must know and apply professional medical principles, procedures, and techniques.
  • The physician must have thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment.
  • The physician must demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills and proper telephone etiquette.
  • Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.
  • The physician must maintain confidentiality of patient information according to federal guidelines and regulations.
Responsibilities
  • Provide medical patient care by interviewing, examining, and treating clinical patients to meet their medical needs.
  • Diagnose illnesses and prescribe and administer treatment for patients suffering from disease or illness.
  • Obtain and review patient medical histories.
  • Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests, studies, and ancillary services.
  • Counsel patients regarding preventive healthcare, hygiene, diet, wellness, prevention, and early detection.
  • Determine required referrals based on examination and patient needs.
  • Determine the urgency of follow-up and referral or consultation appointments.
  • Exercise final medical judgment in healthcare matters.
  • Prescribe medical treatment and clinical drugs to patients.
  • Document all services in patient medical records.
  • Regularly review long-term cases requiring ongoing medical attention.
  • Consult with the Medical Director and other staff professionals regarding patient care, assessment, and education issues.
  • Participate in process improvement, management, continuing education, and other patient care programs established by hospital or clinic requirements.
  • Oversee assigned mid-level medical staff and nursing clinical staff.
  • Assist with resolving patient complaints, requests, and inquiries.
  • Provide customer service consistent with the organization's mission, values, and standards.
