What you’ll do

The Welding and Joining Specialist is responsible for welding and joining analyses and standardization within the Prototype Build to support the manufacturing and testing of prototypes featuring the pioneering Scout design and functionalities. In accordance with the Scout principles, the specialist in this function will contribute to the transfer of Lessons Learned to the later pre-series and series production line. The ideal candidate not only demonstrates deep welding and joining process know-how in the automotive industry and laboratory experience, but also data acquisition and evaluation skills.

• Develop welding and joining standards for Scout
• Design, set up, and operate a welding and joining laboratory to validate prototyping processes
• Create a systematic data base of joining parameters
• Perform welding and joining quality analyses and evaluations
• Evaluate and test bolted connections
• Ensure cross-departmental collaboration with involved departments
• Support the production in achieving the specified welding and joining standards

Location & Travel Expectations: The responsibilities of this role require daily attendance at in-person meetings and events regularly. This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Columbia, SC. Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.

• 5+ years professional experience with expertise in manufacturing engineering, production planning, and/or project management
• Broad experience in operating a Welding and Joining Laboratory
• Deep knowledge of automotive engineering and production
• Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in mechanical, electrical engineering, or equivalent
• Strong data acquisition, evaluation, and curation skills
• Competence to develop effective partnerships and relationships in the cross-functional DV setup
• Creative and strategic problem solver with sound judgement

Pay Transparency

This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate’s skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.

Initial base salary range = $95,000-$115,000
