Requirements
  • Knowledge and skills to care for the physical and developmental needs of the population age groups receiving services.
  • Ability to remain calm in emergency or crisis situations.
  • Ability to use a computer and proficiency in electronic health record documentation.
  • Graduation from an American Occupational Therapy Association-accredited Occupational Therapy program is required.
  • A current license from the New Hampshire State Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners is required.
  • National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy certification is required.
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation and basic life support certification are required.
  • The physical and mental abilities to perform tasks involving sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting or carrying up to 50 pounds are required.
Responsibilities
  • Carry out individualized occupational therapy programs, including assessment, treatment, implementation, education, discharge planning, and communication, to maximize patient progress toward functional goals.
  • Provide direct patient care, evaluate functional needs and outcomes, consult with specialists, review functional needs, and adjust care plans to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Design and implement patient plans of care based on thorough assessments and incorporate significant others when appropriate.
  • Conduct therapy practice within defined standards of care.
  • Direct support staff assistance to achieve patients' functional goals.
  • Communicate with professional and support staff to achieve positive patient outcomes.
  • Maintain compliance with relevant federal and state regulations and organizational policies.
  • Follow hospital and departmental policies and procedures, quality improvement, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  • Document evaluations, treatment goals, and plans; regularly update documentation and maintain prescriptions and signatures.
  • Participate in educational programs, in-service meetings, and workshops; maintain current knowledge of professional literature.
  • Provide direction and leadership to staff and act as a resource to promote occupational therapy in the community.
  • For outpatient services, schedule patients and monitor referral work queues in the electronic health record.
  • For outpatient services, monitor and analyze departmental data elements by creating and running reports in the electronic health record.
