  • A bachelor's degree majoring in Chemistry, Biology, or Medical Sciences.
  • A Clinical Laboratory Technologist license under CLIA.
  • Alternatively, successful completion of 90 semester hours toward a bachelor's degree, including 16 semester hours of Chemistry acceptable for a Chemistry major, including 6 semester hours of Organic Chemistry, 16 semester hours of Biology acceptable for a Biology major and pertinent medical sciences, and 3 semester hours of Mathematics, plus at least one year of experience and training.
Responsibilities
  • Perform routine and emergency analytical and compatibility test procedures on properly identified specimens.
  • Prepare reagents for analytical tests according to designated procedures.
  • Calibrate equipment and perform routine maintenance as designated.
  • Accession and prepare all specimens for testing, and enter specimens in the logbook or computer terminal as required.
  • Perform all tests assigned at the bench according to the procedure manual.
  • Perform testing using bench equipment in Chemistry, Endocrinology, Blood Gas, and Immunology.
  • Follow designated quality-control procedures and maintain records.
  • Immediately report designated panic or out-of-limit results by telephone to the appropriate physician, keep records, and resolve discrepancies.
  • Provide on-the-job training and orientation to students and new employees.
  • Update the inventory of routine laboratory supplies and communicate supply needs to the assistant supervisor.
  • Attend and participate in continuing in-house education meetings to remain current with emerging technology.
