Requirements
  • Must hold a valid Food Service Worker Permit from the Monongalia County Health Department before starting, or obtain a temporary permit by the first Wednesday of employment and a permanent permit within one month of the start date, maintaining the permit throughout employment.
  • Must understand written and oral communication.
  • Must be able to push a fully loaded tray cart weighing approximately 250 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand for most of the working day.
  • Must work in patient-care areas, including entering isolation-precaution rooms with proper protective equipment.
  • Must work rotating weekends and holidays on the 1:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. shift.
  • Must follow special-diet, allergy, fluid-restriction, sanitation, safety, infection-control, and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points procedures.
Responsibilities
  • Answer patient phone calls according to customer-service standards.
  • Follow diet restrictions, including allergies and fluid restrictions.
  • Use EPIC and VST to access patient information and process menu requests.
  • Process between-meal nourishment orders and print them for kitchen staff.
  • Follow missed-meal-report procedures, including alerting nursing staff.
  • Deliver and retrieve meal trays as needed.
  • Visit patients designated as needing assistance, obtain menu selections, and enter them according to diet restrictions.
  • Deliver meal trays within service-timeliness guidelines.
  • Follow delivery standards, including hand sanitization, infection-control requirements, two patient identifiers, AIDET, and required key phrases.
  • Alert nursing staff when a patient is not properly positioned to eat or appears to need assistance.
  • Check trays for missing items and correct issues immediately; maintain condiments on the cart.
  • Document information required for ordered calorie counts.
  • Monitor new patients' understanding of room service, provide menus, and explain the process as needed.
  • Communicate with nursing staff and maintain an effective working relationship.
  • Work with clinical dietitians and respond appropriately to their responsibility for patient nutritional care.
  • Communicate patient special requests and unusual requests to tray-line and production personnel.
  • Maintain cleanliness of nutrition centers according to departmental policies, health-department regulations, and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points guidelines.
  • Collect patient trays and return them to the kitchen within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Assist the room-service assembly line, wrap silverware, or help in the dishroom while waiting for trays.
  • Follow procedures for phone and iPad use.
  • Complete menus by daily deadlines and deliver meals on time.
  • Perform other assigned duties, which may include dietetic-assistant duties.
