Responsibilities
  • Provide site supervision and senior site-based leadership for a construction project.
  • Act as the point of contact with customers, vendors, and subcontractors on site.
  • Maintain safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Understand the contract scope of work and identify field-initiated scope changes and change orders.
  • Provide safety leadership on the jobsite and foster a safety culture within the crew.
  • Provide quality leadership on the jobsite and eliminate returned, rejected, or poor-quality work.
  • Improve field productivity and perform projects under budget and on time.
  • Balance customer satisfaction with project profitability while protecting the company regarding scope changes and barrier time.
  • Provide craft knowledge and experience to the crew, including welding, structural erection, tank repair, new tank construction, and rigging.
  • Evaluate field employees, identify candidates for promotion, provide guidance and training for their development, and communicate evaluation information to Construction Managers and Human Resources.
  • Assist Construction Managers and Human Resources with recruiting field workers.
  • Maintain all tools and equipment and arrange for equipment to be removed from rent when no longer needed.
  • Identify opportunities to improve company practices and resources.
  • Represent the company professionally to customers and employees.
  • Contribute to pre-construction planning.
  • Communicate with Design, Purchasing, Project Management, and Administrative support staff.
  • Understand estimated labor hours and project scope before project start and work with the Project Manager to track weekly progress through field labor reports.
  • Work with the Safety Specialist, Construction Administration, and Human Resources to ensure assigned employees receive required training and certifications, including safety training, Department of Transportation, operator qualification, welder testing, and site-specific requirements.
  • Complete daily timesheets, safety and quality audits, customer paperwork, equipment inspections, and other required documentation.
  • Advise Project Management of potential problems, work interferences, and schedule difficulties and assist with resolving them.
  • Provide complete final project paperwork to the Design Group for the final quality-control book.
