About the Job

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline, physics, or computer science is required.
  • At least 1 year of hands-on experience with non-destructive evaluation techniques and processes is required.
  • Knowledge of non-destructive evaluation techniques such as phased-array ultrasonic testing, immersion ultrasonic testing, eddy-current testing, and digital radiography testing is preferred.
  • Knowledge of statistical modeling, machine learning, and mathematical optimization is preferred.
  • Understanding of hardware and software development and validation processes is preferred.
  • Familiarity with JIRA or similar task and feature tracking systems is preferred.
  • Knowledge of automation and controls is preferred.
  • Experience coding software and automation using LabVIEW, Python, C#, or SQL is preferred.
  • Ability to multitask across technology development, project management, and training through the introduction of multiple production solutions, from inception and research and development to full-volume production, is preferred.
  • Experience with problem-solving tools and techniques such as Practical Problem Solving and 8D is preferred.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and provide occasional weekend support is required.
  • Ability to travel to vendors and other SpaceX sites as needed, up to 25%, is required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop non-destructive evaluation inspection methods from feasibility through production cut-in, covering sensors, scan development, software, and qualification.
  • Design and prototype ultrasonic sensor systems, scan setups, and part tooling to meet coverage, sensitivity, and cycle-time requirements.
  • Partner with responsible engineers on inspection requirements, designing parts for inspectability, method selection, and evaluation of production data.
  • Validate new techniques with modeling, bench-top trials, and production-representative scans before committing to full-scale hardware.
  • Drive vendors, tooling, and automation from requirements and procurement through on-site installation, integration, and commissioning.
  • Build and deploy automated evaluation, data storage, and reporting pipelines that link inspection results to work orders.
  • Define integration test plans, qualification evidence, and production-cut-in criteria that track to the program schedule.
  • Present risk, performance, and recommendations to manufacturing, design, and leadership.
  • Debug hardware and software interactions at the inspection cell during development and production.
  • Use production scan data to improve detection performance, reduce cycle time, and eliminate false calls and escapes.
  • Train production technicians on new inspection methods and support them through process activation.

Desired Qualifications

  • A master's degree or PhD in an engineering discipline is preferred.

About the Company

SpaceX

Builds rockets and runs Starlink satellite internet

SpaceX builds and launches reusable rockets and spacecraft for NASA, the military, and companies, and it runs Starlink, a satellite internet service for homes and businesses. In 2020, its Dragon capsule became the first privately built spacecraft to carry astronauts to the International Space Station. Its Falcon 9 rocket lands its first stage so the booster can fly again, which cuts launch costs, while Starlink beams internet from low-orbit satellites to small dishes for a monthly fee. SpaceX also owns xAI, maker of the Grok chatbot and owner of the social network X, and is building Starship, a fully reusable rocket meant to carry people to the Moon and Mars. Elon Musk founded SpaceX in 2002, and it is based in Starbase, Texas.
