Requirements
  • HNC, HND, or NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, Control and Automation, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in a similar Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation engineering role, ideally in industrial, utilities, construction, or manufacturing environments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of BS 7671, the Machinery Directive, the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act, the Electricity at Work Regulations, PUWER, the EMC Directive, and CDM Regulations.
  • On-site installation and commissioning experience.
  • Proficiency in electrical and control system design tools such as NanoCAD and Amtech.
  • Ability to produce and interpret schematics, P&IDs, general arrangement drawings, and instrument schedules.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to manage conflicts within varied organizational structures.
  • Knowledge of JIRA.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to simplify complex issues.
  • Ability to engage confidently with clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Extensive experience with lean manufacturing and continuous process improvement methodologies in a low-volume, high-value manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation designs for industrial and process-related projects.
  • Produce and approve design documentation, including load calculations, control architecture, instrument specifications, cable schedules, panel designs, and functional design specifications.
  • Ensure design work complies with BS 7671, the Machinery Directive, the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act, and other relevant standards.
  • Provide technical leadership, standardization, and guidance to engineering teams.
  • Manage the EICA scope across multiple concurrent projects from concept through commissioning.
  • Develop project scopes of work.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering inputs and supervise junior engineers and subcontractors.
  • Ensure project milestones and quality expectations are met.
  • Provide senior-level technical support and mentorship to internal teams, site personnel, and clients.
  • Conduct site surveys, inspections, factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, and field troubleshooting.
  • Resolve technical issues during design, installation, commissioning, and operational phases.
  • Lead internal meetings and design reviews.
  • Participate in client, customer, and stakeholder meetings to provide technical clarity and project updates.
  • Build working relationships with suppliers, contractors, and end users.
  • Support bid teams with technical input for proposals and tenders.
  • Assess technical risks.
  • Work with business development teams to provide subject-matter expertise.
  • Support or oversee installation activities to ensure compliance with design and safety standards.

  • Participate in commissioning, integration, and handover activities.
  • Review, mark up, and update electrical drawings, including schematics, wiring, and cable schedules, to reflect installation changes, design modifications, progress, and as-built conditions.
  • Maintain drawing version control and revision history.
  • Create technical submittals for electrical items using client and consultant specifications.
  • Derive material lists from drawings and specifications, including cables, conduit, terminations, components, and extra-low-voltage devices.
  • Prepare purchase requisitions and bills of materials, monitor delivery timelines, and coordinate with procurement to avoid delays.
  • Generate and distribute electrical design documentation, including schematics, layouts, and interconnections, to installation teams and manufacturing workshops.
  • Ensure documentation is complete and correctly referenced.
  • Act as the design liaison to site engineers and installers by resolving queries, clarifying design intent, and recommending compliant modifications.
  • Support site installation with clarifications, deviations, and design changes.
  • Generate engineering punch lists during installation, track items, and ensure completion.
  • Work with quality assurance and site teams to inspect, document, and sign off closing items.
  • Attend planning and coordination meetings and report on electrical task status.
  • Maintain and update the EICA project planner with task lists, milestones, dependencies, and real-time progress.
  • Assist with creation and verification of extra-low-voltage cable pull lists, including quantities, routing, and lengths.
  • Cross-check cable pull lists against design drawings and site conditions.
  • Attend factory acceptance tests or panel witness tests to ensure panels meet design specifications.
  • Support site connectivity, testing, and verification during commissioning.
  • Ensure electrical documentation meets internal and external quality assurance standards and safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Archive as-built drawings, wiring diagrams, and cable schedules in project records.
  • Undertake electrical designs in accordance with company standard operating procedures, including SOP EBD-PP-001.
  • Carry out preliminary assessments of supply characteristics, earthing arrangements, and cable requirements.
  • Review project P&IDs, mechanical submittals, and motor data sheets to inform designs.
  • Perform load calculations and prepare load schedules with diversity factors.
  • Produce Single Line Diagrams, earthing and bonding diagrams, and cable schedules.
  • Use Trimble ProDesign or equivalent software to generate electrical schematics, switchboard and distribution board layouts and schedules, protective device settings, fault-current studies, disconnection-time studies, and discrimination studies.
  • Prepare block cable diagrams and, where applicable, Quick Connect Diagrams for site deployment.
  • Conduct peer reviews and ensure compliance with BS 7671 and other applicable standards.
  • Collaborate with project managers, mechanical engineers, and clients to ensure designs meet specifications and programme requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records, revision control, and documentation throughout the design lifecycle.
  • Ensure designs account for safe isolation, maintenance access, and buildability
