About the Job

Requirements

  • A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a similar discipline focused on Silicon Photonics, optical components, modules, and transmission systems, with 6 or more years of industry experience; alternatively, a PhD in those fields and focus areas with 4 or more years of industry experience.
  • Experience in system link modeling and design methodology and tools for high-speed (50GBaud to 200GBaud) optical communication transceivers and CPO/OCI engine products, including experimental and theoretical performance analysis, optical components, and system optimization.
  • Experience architecting, designing, and defining new systems and components for high-speed silicon photonics commercial optical communication products.
  • Experience modeling direct-detect higher-order modulation-format systems, advanced modulation formats, and noncoherent and coherent optical systems, including modulators, detectors, and lasers.
  • Experience with optical/electrical simulation platforms such as Simulink, MATLAB, ADS, Lumerical, HFSS, or VPI.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, design, and simulate new system-level and component-level photonics solutions.
  • Develop and perform end-to-end system-level link simulations with high-speed silicon photonic components.
  • Identify system-level tradeoffs and component performance optimization opportunities.
  • Define system specifications that drive component development and tradeoffs.
  • Work across organizations to validate photonic link and system understanding through experiments, implement system-level solutions, and drive engineering requirements decisions.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience modeling transmitter, receiver, analog, and SerDes interactions; silicon and III-V photonic devices; and subsystems in high-speed optical communication systems.
  • Experience co-simulating high-speed electronics with optical components; DSP modeling; coding and decoding techniques; OSNR/BER/FEC error correction; CMOS ICs, including drivers and TIAs; and advanced modulation formats.
  • Experience designing high-speed optoelectronic and electronic components.
  • Experience with component, carrier, RF package, and driver-modulator optimization; high-speed interconnect digital and analog systems; DSP; and FEC.
  • Exposure to optical system-, subsystem-, and component-level characterization.
  • Exposure to optical packaging concepts in 2D, 2.5D, and 3D, and optical testing.

About the Company

Intel

Pioneers microprocessors, CPUs for PCs

Intel designs and manufactures semiconductor chips, with a focus on microprocessors for personal computers, servers, and other devices. Its core product is the CPU on a single silicon chip, which executes instructions, handles arithmetic and logic operations, and coordinates the work of other computer components. Intel originated in memory chips but shifted decisively to microprocessors in the 1980s, becoming a central supplier for the PC era after the IBM partnership and its famous x86 processor line. This shift, large-scale manufacturing, and close ties with computer makers set Intel apart from competitors who remained focused on memory or other components. The company aims to power computing by delivering high-performance, energy-efficient silicon solutions that drive a wide range of computing devices and applications.
