Requirements
  • Graduate of a school of vocational nursing.
  • Current licensure as a Vocational Nurse in the State of Texas, or immediate eligibility for licensure.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required within 30 days of employment and before patient care is administered independently.
  • Ability to perform frequent standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and reaching, as well as occasional sitting, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, and twisting.
  • Visual, hearing, and color vision acuity are required.
  • Ability to work with potential exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, moving mechanical parts, electric shock, radiant energy, communicable diseases, and blood-borne pathogens.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct nursing care to assigned patients under the general supervision of a Registered Nurse and perform approved nursing procedures.
  • Assist with the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care.
  • Assist patients with daily care and activities and perform patient care procedures and treatments, including for patients with complicated nursing problems or critical conditions.
  • Assist with patient safety, comfort, care, and treatment according to established standards.
  • Use the nursing process to plan, provide, document, and evaluate care.
  • Collect data for the Registered Nurse’s nursing assessment through ongoing and systematic data collection.
  • Coordinate and plan nursing care delivery with a multidisciplinary team and administer appropriate clinical decisions in patient care.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop and implement plans of care and interventions.
  • Evaluate patient progress toward expected outcomes and communicate effectively with physicians and other team members.
  • Provide patient and family teaching based on individual patient needs.
  • Administer and reconcile medications appropriately.
  • Adhere to infection-prevention protocols and maintain patient confidentiality, including appropriate handling of protected health information.
  • Participate in quality improvement, service excellence, interdisciplinary program evaluation, process improvement, survey readiness, and regulatory compliance activities.
  • Promote professional growth through mandatory and continuing education and competence validation.
  • Serve as a preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and report safety concerns appropriately.
  • Interact effectively with hospital staff, medical staff, patients, and visitors.
Desired Qualifications
  • One year of Medical-Surgical experience is preferred.
