Requirements
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree with a major in nursing (BSN or equivalent) from an accredited nursing program is required.
  • A current, active, and unencumbered Registered Nurse or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license issued by the Florida Department of Health is required.
  • Current and active Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • A minimum of four years of related practical work experience in the subject areas taught is required.
  • Faculty must have experience and appropriate credentials in their relevant area of academia according to the Florida Board of Nursing, Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges, and other governing bodies.
  • Excellent written, oral, and analytical skills are required.
  • Excellent teaching skills and the ability to efficiently manage students’ clinical and skills-lab activities are required.
  • Computer literacy and functional knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook, are required.
  • The ability to manage people and projects is required.
  • Knowledge of the course content is required.
  • The ability to direct and evaluate student learning and lab performance is required.
  • Preparation in educational theory and techniques is required.
  • A willingness to follow high ethical standards is required.
  • Faculty must obtain prior approval for assignments requiring overtime.
  • Faculty must be able to communicate with coworkers, present to classrooms, demonstrate procedures and techniques, travel to classes and offices, and lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare course plans and materials.
  • Facilitate NCLEX review sessions and workshops focused on test-taking strategies, critical thinking, and clinical judgment.
  • Deliver course lectures and facilitate laboratories and clinical rotations.
  • Provide guidance on test-taking strategies and critical-thinking skills specific to the Next Generation NCLEX examination.
  • Monitor equipment and supply needs.
  • Maintain the classroom.
  • Stay current with NCLEX test-plan updates, nursing-education best practices, and evidence-based teaching methods.
  • Obtain an approved substitute when absent.
  • Enforce institutional policies, including attendance, dress code, and clinical policies.
  • Participate in orientation, graduation, and pinning ceremonies.
  • Work on retention plans and program development.
  • Attend staff and faculty meetings.
  • Participate in committees and knowledge-sharing forums.
  • Facilitate student engagement.
  • Direct and assess student progress in theory and performance requirements of the program.
  • Monitor student progress and follow up as needed.
  • Provide weekly feedback reports to academic and campus leadership.
  • Maintain relevant licensures, certifications, and personnel-file paperwork.
  • Complete a minimum of eight Continuing Education Units annually through professional development and in-service activities.
  • Encourage students to submit course evaluations, review available evaluations, and use feedback to improve course delivery.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Participate in Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing and other accreditation activities.
  • Comply with governmental regulations and accreditation standards.
  • Teach assigned courses, clinicals, and laboratory hours face to face with students as driven by cohort needs.
  • Teach at least 30 hours per week as a full-time faculty member.
  • Attend meetings, participate in accreditation, and serve on committees as a full-time faculty member.
