Requirements
  • At least 1 year of ambulatory outpatient, emergency department, or urgent care experience.
  • Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Current unrestricted or pending licensure in Michigan.
  • Licensure as a Physician Assistant and a state Drug Enforcement Administration license to prescribe medications.
  • Current prescriptive authority and a collaborative agreement with overseeing physician(s).
  • Maintenance of all requirements for medical staff privileges.
  • Ability to use word-processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and other job-related software.
  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication, including use of the Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation technique.
  • Ability to communicate with physicians, multidisciplinary teams, finance, management, patients, third-party payers, and community agencies.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of regular walking, standing, stooping, bending, sitting, and light lifting.
Responsibilities
  • Provide a broad range of healthcare services to patients aged 3 months and older with minor illnesses and injuries.
  • Perform comprehensive and problem-focused histories and physical examinations.
  • Interpret laboratory, electrocardiogram, and radiologic or imaging tests and correlate subjective and objective patient data.
  • Formulate diagnoses and, under physician direction, develop treatment plans within the scope of practice.
  • Perform clinical activities in outpatient and inpatient settings.
  • Coordinate care with the multidisciplinary team to facilitate patient progress toward outcomes, including discharge or transfer.
  • Act as a clinical resource for the multidisciplinary team.
  • Identify common patient complications and use appropriate preventive measures.
  • Assist with development and integration of quality measures and evidence into clinical practice.
  • Perform comprehensive assessments to determine whether patients require a higher intensity of service or transfer to a hospital setting.
  • Apply regulatory and third-party payer criteria in utilization review and management.
  • Facilitate timely discharge or transfer to the appropriate level of care.
  • Evaluate and appropriately manage patients.
  • Complete documentation supporting billing, medical care, orders, and progress notes.
  • Respond to nursing questions and evaluate patient status changes.
  • Demonstrate population-specific competencies when providing direct patient care.
