JMA Wireless awarded $44M to upgrade 5G O-RAN radio manufacturing plant in New York.
The Biden administration awarded $273 million in federal funding for ORU hardware development through the Wireless Innovation Fund. JMA Wireless received $43.9 million to develop the American Ruggedized Modular O-RAN Radio (ARMOR) platform, which supports energy-efficient Open Radio Unit variants. This initiative aims to enhance U.S. innovation and global leadership in wireless networks as part of the CHIPs and Science Act, which will distribute $1.5 billion over the next decade.
JMA Wireless will spend over $75 million to expand and upgrade its 5G factory in Syracuse, New York, with about $44 million coming from federal funding under the CHIPS and Science Law.

All told, JMA Wireless officials said the CHIPS Act grant will allow the company to invest $75 million to open a new production line and expand testing capabilities at its plant on Syracuse's South Side, which opened in 2022.
