About the Job

Requirements

  • A B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is required.
  • At least 2 years of mechanical design experience is required.
  • Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) is required; SolidWorks is preferred.
  • Experience with product lifecycle management (PLM) or product data management (PDM) systems is required.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools such as Python, R, MATLAB, or Excel is required.
  • Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) is required.
  • Experience working with cross-functional new process introduction (NPI) or pilot builds in a fast-paced environment is required.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to work standing in a laboratory for up to 8 hours each day.
  • Employment is conditioned on continued availability of government authorization for access to export-controlled items, where required.

Responsibilities

  • Own and develop cell assembly drawings with detailed specifications, CAD models, and detailed bills of materials (BOMs) for pouch-cell builds.
  • Design and optimize electrode layout, stack architecture, and mechanical containment.
  • Ensure designs meet manufacturing feasibility and safety requirements for NPI and pilot-build readiness.
  • Participate in design reviews, design failure mode and effects analysis (DFMEA), process failure mode and effects analysis (PFMEA), and engineering change documentation.
  • Identify and resolve pouch-cell assembly issues involving tab alignment, sealing integrity, and electrolyte distribution.
  • Understand pilot-line process capabilities and reflect them in cell design.
  • Develop battery performance specifications based on business-development needs and customer requirements.
  • Use statistical analysis tools to identify trends and correlations in battery performance data.
  • Partner with technicians and operators to identify and implement process-improvement measures.
  • Design and execute design of experiments (DOEs) on production lines and follow through using manufacturing execution systems (MES).
  • Lead tolerance stack-up analysis for battery-pack assemblies and cell integration.
  • Establish and validate in-process quality-control methods and inspection criteria.
  • Work with the supply-chain team on cost-reduction initiatives and value engineering.

Desired Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of hands-on experience in cell design is preferred.
  • Understanding of battery quality-control methods, including Hi-Pot testing, dimensional analysis, CT scans, weld testing, and leak testing, is preferred.
  • A strong understanding of pouch-cell architecture, cell electrochemistry, and battery-performance trade-offs is preferred.

About the Company

Lyten

Develops 3D graphene-based energy solutions

Lyten develops and applies 3D graphene materials to help heavy-emitting industries reduce their carbon emissions. It builds applications on a materials platform centered on 3D graphene and is advancing Lithium-Sulfur batteries to improve EV efficiency and affordability. It differentiates itself by partnering with Fortune 500 customers and building a scalable platform rather than relying on a single product, with support from strategic investors like FedEx, Stellantis, and Honeywell. Its goal is to help large emitters reach net-zero while preserving profitability and accelerate the global transition to clean energy through practical, scalable technology.
