William Blair expands Taiwan offering with emerging markets debt fund

William Blair Investment Management has launched its fourth SICAV fund in Taiwan, expanding beyond US equities and hard-currency debt. The new William Blair Emerging Markets Debt Local Currency SICAV Fund focuses on local currencies and interest rates across emerging economies. The emerging markets debt team manages approximately $1.2 billion as of June 2026. The actively managed strategy combines macroeconomic analysis with country and security selection, without benchmark constraints. William Blair sees attractive opportunities in local-currency emerging markets debt due to stronger policy frameworks, attractive real interest rates, and favourable growth prospects in many emerging economies. The fund is managed by Marcelo Assalin and Lewis Jones. The launch follows William Blair's recognition as Best Emerging Markets Local Currency Fixed Income Manager at the 2025 Citywire Asia Asset Management Awards, reinforcing the firm's expansion in Asian markets.

Prior to this, he was the lead global equity portfolio manager at Rezayat Investments and held roles at Capital Group and Morgan Stanley, having started his career at KPMG. Global Leaders Select is part of William Blair's Leaders platform, a series of actively managed equity portfolios focused on high-quality companies with strong competitive advantages, pricing power, and earnings growth. This includes William Blair's Emerging Market Leaders, International Leaders and Global Leaders strategies. William Blair Investment Management's Global Leaders Select strategy has been seeded with $225 million in a separately managed account. Khanna will work alongside Hugo Scott-Gall and William Blair's global equity team to manage the strategy. Khanna commented: "William Blair has a long history of combining deep fundamental research with a forward-looking, global mindset aligning with this strategy's focus on identifying best-in-class or emerging best-in-class companies which offer attractive growth and underappreciated earnings power. I look forward to continuing delivering for the firm's clients." MORE ARTICLES ON

William Blair cuts Coinbase estimates but predicts crypto market nearing bottom

William Blair has cut its revenue and EBITDA estimates for Coinbase by significant margins, predicting trading volumes will fall 44% to $669 billion in 2026. Despite this, the investment firm maintains its outperform rating and suggests the crypto market may be nearing a bottom. Coinbase shares have dropped from an all-time high of $445 on 17 July 2025 to $157 as of 17 July 2026. The exchange reported revenue of $1.4 billion in Q1 2026, down 31% year-over-year, with a net loss of $394 million compared to net income of $66 million the previous year. Coinbase has diversified beyond transaction fees into tokenised real-world assets, prediction markets, and retail derivatives.
