As a member of the Engineering Operations pod at Aurora Solar, you will be responsible for continuously improving the foundational pieces on which our platform operates. The Engineering Operations pod is responsible for influencing, coaching, and collaborating with pods on building sustainable systems and services in the cloud. You will serve as an advocate for (and implementer of) well-architected systems in the cloud. We love working with other pods to design and implement automations that make their work easier and more efficient.

What you’ll do:
- Collaborate with engineering pods to architect and roll-out the infrastructure and systems that make up our platform according to the infrastructure needs of our various customer-facing and internal pods
- Help pods to find ways to satisfy complex technical requirements and optimize cloud systems for performance and cost
- Continuously improve our security posture by working to develop secure-by-default systems, identify and investigate security risks, and coach teams on ways to resolve them
- Support our engineering teams by further improving our ephemeral and local development environments in close partnership with other pods
- Automate away tedious work and find ways to streamline processes related to our CI/CD systems
What we value:
- Strong operational experience working with the services and capabilities available within the AWS ecosystem, such as: ECS (Fargate), RDS/Aurora Postgres, and foundational elements like configuring VPCs, Subnets, IGWs, EBS, and Load-Balancers
- Recent work in one or more of the following languages: Python, Typescript/JavaScript, or Go
- Competency working with some the following technologies & tools: Terraform, DataDog, GitHub Actions, Prometheus, and Envoy Proxy
- A collaborative mindset,with an emphasis on working with diverse teams; an “engineering diplomat”
- A desire to continuously learn new skills, languages and patterns; a “continuous learner”
- Knowledge of, and ability to reason about and debug systems that utilize containerization technologies such as Docker
- A desire to adopt and learn from best-practice guidance such as the AWS Well-Architected Framework
At Aurora Solar, we tie our base pay ranges to level and location. In Canada, this means that your base pay ranges will fall into one of two geographic pay zones depending on your location.
In most cases, we target the midpoint of our salary ranges for new hire compensation. This placement is reflective of full proficiency in a role. Base pay is ultimately determined based on a number of factors including skills, qualifications, and location. This role is eligible for additional variable compensation and an equity grant, which will be discussed in your initial recruiter conversation.
The expected salary range for this position if evaluated as a Senior Software Engineer:
- Tier 1 Toronto, Vancouver: CAD $127,000.00 - $172,000.00
- Tier 2 All Other CA Locations: CAD $116,000.00 - $157,000.00
The expected salary range for this position if evaluated as a Software Engineer:
- Tier 1 Toronto, Vancouver: CAD $99,500.00 - $135,000.00
- Tier 2 All Other CA Locations: CAD $91,000.00 - $123,000.00
