Cummings Electrical has announced that Jarid Scarafiotti, president of the company's Service Division, has been selected for Building Design+Construction magazine's 40 Under 40 Class of 2026. The national recognition celebrates accomplished young professionals who are making significant contributions to the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industries through leadership, innovation, and professional achievement. Scarafiotti's selection highlights his career progression at Cummings Electrical, where he has advanced from an entry-level estimating position to a senior leadership role. Since joining the company in 2013, he has taken on responsibilities across estimating, project management, and enterprise leadership before becoming president of the Service Division in 2021 at the age of 31. Under his leadership, the division has recorded substantial business growth, increasing revenue sevenfold while nearly doubling its margins. The division has also become the company's largest in terms of headcount and its leading division in profitability and innovation, according to Cummings Electrical. The recognition reflects Scarafiotti's leadership approach and the company's emphasis on developing employees, strengthening operational performance, and creating opportunities for professional advancement within the electrical contracting industry. Career growth through leadership and experience. Scarafiotti began his career at Cummings Electrical in 2013 as an estimator without previous experience in the industry. Through successive roles and increasing responsibilities, he developed expertise in project estimating, management, and business operations. His progression demonstrates the role of practical experience and internal development in preparing professionals for leadership positions within the construction sector. By working across multiple functions, Scarafiotti gained exposure to different aspects of the business, including project delivery, financial performance, team management, and operational improvement. In 2021, he was appointed president of the Service Division at the age of 31. Since then, his responsibilities have included guiding the division's growth, strengthening its financial performance, and supporting the development of its workforce. The division's sevenfold revenue increase under his leadership represents a significant expansion of its business activities. Its nearly doubled margins also indicate improvements in financial performance during the same period, according to the company's announcement. Beyond revenue growth, the division has established itself as a major part of Cummings Electrical's operations. Its position as the company's largest division by headcount reflects the scale of its workforce, while its reported profitability and innovation leadership underscore its importance to the company's broader business strategy. These achievements contributed to Scarafiotti's inclusion in the 40 Under 40 programme, which recognizes emerging leaders across the built-environment professions. Recognizing the contributions of the Service team. Scarafiotti emphasized that the recognition represents a collective achievement rather than an individual accomplishment. He credited Cummings Electrical's workplace culture and the contributions of employees throughout the Service Division for helping create the conditions for its continued development. "This award carries one name, but it was built by many," said Scarafiotti. "Cummings is a company that bets on people and puts them in position to succeed. That is what happened for me thirteen years ago, and it is what our Service team does every day. The 700-plus people who refuse to accept a ceiling on this business are the reason for this recognition." His remarks highlight the importance of employee development, shared responsibility, and teamwork in building a successful service operation. They also reflect the role that organizational support can play in helping employees progress from early-career positions into leadership roles. In the construction industry, service divisions often require coordination among technical professionals, project teams, field personnel, and management. Maintaining effective operations while expanding revenue and improving profitability requires a focus on workforce development, consistent processes, and operational execution. Cummings Electrical's investment in its people and internal leadership capabilities has formed an important part of Scarafiotti's career and the division's growth. Developing company-wide processes and leadership. In addition to overseeing the Service Division, Scarafiotti has contributed to initiatives designed to improve operations and strengthen leadership throughout Cummings Electrical. He developed the Cummings Connect process library, a company-wide resource that remains in daily use. The initiative supports the organization's approach to documenting and sharing processes, helping employees access established procedures and maintain greater consistency in their work. Standardized processes can be particularly valuable for growing construction businesses, where teams must coordinate activities across projects, departments, and locations. Documented procedures can help preserve organizational knowledge, clarify responsibilities, and support more consistent execution as a company expands. Scarafiotti also developed the CIL leadership development curriculum, which has been completed by every manager hired or promoted at Cummings Electrical since 2017. The curriculum represents a structured approach to management development, providing a common foundation for leaders as they assume new responsibilities. Leadership development programmes can help organizations prepare managers to support employees, manage operational challenges, and align team activities with broader business objectives. The continued use of both initiatives demonstrates the lasting role of Scarafiotti's contributions beyond the division he leads. These programmes have become part of the company's ongoing operational and management practices. Mentoring future professionals. Scarafiotti's leadership activities also extend beyond his responsibilities at Cummings Electrical. He serves as co-president of the Stephen F. Austin State University Baseball Alumni Association, where he mentors student-athletes preparing to enter professional careers. Through this role, he supports young people as they navigate the transition from university athletics to employment and other professional opportunities. Mentorship can help individuals develop practical career skills, establish professional goals, and better understand the expectations of the workplace. His involvement in the alumni association reflects a broader commitment to professional development and supporting the next generation of leaders. A milestone for Cummings Electrical. Scarafiotti's inclusion in Building Design+Construction magazine's 40 Under 40 Class of 2026 marks a significant milestone in his career and recognizes his contributions to the construction industry. From joining Cummings Electrical as an inexperienced estimator in 2013 to leading its Service Division, he has helped drive business growth while developing company-wide processes and leadership programmes. His selection also highlights the role of employee development, operational improvement, and collaborative leadership in supporting the long-term success of construction businesses. Through his work at Cummings Electrical and his involvement in mentoring emerging professionals, Scarafiotti continues to contribute to workforce development and leadership across the industry.
