Requirements
  • A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.
  • First Aid and CPR certifications are required.
  • Certification in CPI Nonviolence Crisis Intervention or other crisis management training is required.
  • The employee must be at least 21 years of age.
  • The employee must be able to process admissions and releases, maintain medical records and medication information, and refer residents to a nurse.
  • The employee must have knowledge of personal computers, sociology principles applicable to juvenile casework, county and state juvenile-care regulations, and departmental policies and procedures.
  • The employee must be able to counsel individuals concerning personal and family problems and elicit pertinent personal information.
  • The employee must be able to communicate clearly orally and in writing, establish interpersonal relationships, remain alert and vigilant, handle stressful situations, and support crisis problem-solving.
  • The employee must be able to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; and speak effectively before groups.
  • The employee must be able to perform basic arithmetic and interpret rate, ratio, percent, and bar graphs.
  • The employee must be able to solve practical problems and interpret written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule-based instructions.
  • The employee must meet the stated physical requirements, including responding to altercations, restraining residents, and lifting or moving weights up to and exceeding 100 pounds.
  • The employee must comply with drug and alcohol testing requirements for safety-sensitive duties.
  • The employee must be willing to work overtime, shifts, rotating schedules, or schedules other than Monday through Friday when required.
Responsibilities
  • Process new admissions and releases; record and maintain residents’ medical needs and medication administration information; and refer residents to the nurse.
  • Orient residents to policies, rules, and procedures; supervise residents; enforce rules; guide program participation; and provide security.
  • Report irregularities, emergencies, and matters of consequence to the Administrator.
  • Act as a liaison between Family Center for Juvenile Justice staff and residents.
  • Record and maintain written reports regarding residents’ behavior and adjustment.
  • Keep all areas and rooms clean, sanitized, and presentable.
  • Plan or assist with planning and participate in staff meetings and staff training.
  • Work other shifts during emergencies when recalled.
  • Counsel residents and support positive behavioral changes.
  • Use a personal computer for admissions and releases.
  • Provide peer-to-peer training on facility unit needs and functions.
  • Provide peer-to-peer training on Workday Tulsa County personnel and training programs.
  • Participate in special projects involving data collection, document creation, and presentation of materials to agency leadership or community collaborators.
  • Lead social-skills training for juveniles under Core Correctional Practices.
  • Organize and execute scheduled program-enhancement groups for residents under the general direction of the assigned Shift Supervisor.
  • Train and mentor new employees during their initial orientation period and verify training status on orientation checklists.
  • Provide specific training to current employees when directed by the assigned Shift Supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • A valid Oklahoma driver’s license is preferred.
