Requirements
  • Previous Airfield Management experience is required, and the candidate must already be fully qualified.
  • Complete local Airfield Management qualification training within six months of assuming the position.
  • Complete required task certification per AFMAN 13-204 Volume 2 (AETC supplement) before performing inspections or checks.
  • Complete a review of the United States Air Force Position Certification Guide.
  • Complete required Wildlife Hazard/Bird Aircraft Safety Hazard training.
  • Be proficient in Airfield Management operations, equipment, and systems, including AM radios, Notice to Airmen systems, the Secondary Crash Net, AF Form 3616, and flight planning systems.
  • Obtain and maintain a Secret-level clearance.
  • Pass a background check and any additional background checks required by projects or clients.
  • Demonstrate verbal and written communication skills.
  • Independently troubleshoot and resolve problems with minimal supervision.
  • Maintain attention to detail, initiative, and ownership.
  • Respond proactively and flexibly to changing priorities.
  • Remain calm, patient, and effective in difficult and stressful situations.
  • Work collaboratively and independently as required.
  • Handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint.
  • Be physically capable of frequent movement around the airfield, including walking, standing, vehicle operation, Foreign Object Damage sweeps, wildlife dispersal, and emergency response.
  • Work indoors and outdoors and operate an airfield vehicle in adverse weather and nighttime conditions.
  • Be available for extended duty hours, including early mornings, evenings, contingency operations, and emergency operations.
Responsibilities
  • Perform daily airfield inspections and routine checks of runway, taxiway, apron, lighting, marking, wildlife, and airfield surface conditions, documenting results.
  • Maintain continuous situational awareness of airfield activities and control the Airfield Management Operations section during the assigned shift.
  • Conduct and document shift-change briefings covering operational, emergency, and airfield status updates.
  • Process flight plans, verify accuracy, manage flight data entries, transmit movement messages, and perform flight-following and overdue-aircraft procedures.
  • Request, issue, maintain, revise, and cancel Notice to Airmen in accordance with Air Force and Federal Aviation Administration requirements.
  • Determine and disseminate Runway Surface Condition and Runway Condition Reading values to flying and support agencies.
  • Respond to in-flight and ground emergencies, operate the Secondary Crash Net, execute Quick Reaction Checklists, and perform follow-up actions such as Foreign Object Damage sweeps, wildlife checks, and runway condition determinations.
  • Disperse birds and wildlife, declare or recommend bird-watch conditions, and report remains under the Bird Aircraft Safety Hazard Plan.
  • Document operational events on AF Form 3616 using the approved contractions list and maintain logs, checklists, forms, and records.
  • Provide customer service to base and transient aircrews by delivering airfield condition briefings, coordinating parking, supporting Prior Permission Required requests, and arranging aircrew transportation when needed.
  • Maintain the flight planning room, including maps, publications, charts, displays, and equipment.
  • Execute operating instructions, checklists, emergency procedures, and local policies to maintain continuity of airfield operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
