Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering or Physics and 3 years of relevant optics or laser experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required.
  • Experience with lasers, preferably laser diodes, is required.
  • Experience with automated alignment processes, such as pick-and-place robotic equipment, preferably for optical or semiconductor components, is required.
  • A strong foundation in mathematics and physics is required.
  • Ability to develop data collection and database interfaces and integrate them into a manufacturing execution system is required.
  • High competency in optical systems modeling is required; Zemax is highly preferred.
  • Ability to develop optical alignment tooling and procedures is required.
  • A track record of project work on optical systems is required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics is required.
  • Willingness and ability to work evening shifts up to two times per week is required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Hands-on experience using oscilloscopes and electronic test equipment is required.
  • Experience with data analysis tools such as MATLAB, Python, Excel, or similar platforms is required.
  • Prior experience in a laboratory or manufacturing environment is required.
Responsibilities
  • Complete qualification and stand watch during operation of the Omega laser system.
  • Perform engineering analysis to support laser development, system performance evaluation, and operational activities, and ensure system safety.
  • Collect, process, and interpret technical data to identify trends, anomalies, and performance improvements.
  • Conduct laboratory and field testing using oscilloscopes and other diagnostic tools.
  • Support validation and verification activities through structured test planning and documentation.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures and test plans to provide clear direction to technicians and operators.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including scientists, engineers, and technicians.
  • Support laser upgrade projects and software development, with responsibility for minor aspects under the direction of a project manager.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with laser diodes.
  • Experience with automated alignment processes for optical or semiconductor components.
  • Experience modeling optical systems using Zemax.
