Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in mathematics or a related field is required.
  • Completion of Society of Actuaries examinations P, FM, FAM, ALTAM, SRM and PA is required, or equivalent experience through three years in the W&SFG Actuarial Analyst position while remaining in good standing with the exam program and meeting the stated performance requirements.
  • Completion of the three Validation by Education Experience requirements of the Society of Actuaries is required.
  • Completion of the Pre-Actuarial Foundations and Actuarial Science Foundations modules is required.
  • Proven experience applying appropriate actuarial principles to work-related problems is required.
  • Proven experience exercising good judgment, problem-solving skills and time-management skills on actuarial projects is required.
  • Experience with actuarial software packages such as ARCVal for valuation, ARCBase for experience studies, and/or MG-ALFA for pricing and projections is required.
  • Examples from work experience must demonstrate maintaining a high degree of accuracy with high volumes of work and/or multiple duties.
  • Demonstrated mastery of the responsibilities and competencies of the Actuarial Analyst position is required.
  • Proven strong analytical skills, including identifying and quantifying problems and providing effective resolutions, are required.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including interpreting and communicating complex business needs and recommending courses of action to internal and external partners, are required.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare correspondence, reports and forms is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and maintain self-motivation under limited supervision is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products is required.
  • The candidate must actively pursue the Fellow of the Society of Actuaries designation by attempting a Society of Actuaries exam at each sitting.
  • The candidate must pass at least 50% of the exams attempted.
  • The candidate must adhere to all other actuarial exam and administrative rules.
  • The role requires verbal communication and exchange of accurate information with customers and associates.
  • The role requires visual acuity to read and interpret correspondence, procedures, reports and forms, inspect small defects and parts, operate machinery, use measurement devices, and determine accuracy and thoroughness of assigned work.
  • The role requires preparing written correspondence, reports and forms using prescribed formats and conforming to punctuation, grammar, diction and style rules.
  • The role requires applying logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • The role requires substantial movement of the wrists, hands and fingers for continuous computer work.
  • Extended hours are required during peak workloads or special projects and events.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and modify complex technical programs using actuarial measures and methods to analyze products, calculate reserves, project financial results, and assess profitability and risk.
  • Analyze model output and review data for reasonableness and accuracy.
  • Support other departments in understanding technical concepts and improving operational efficiency.
  • Develop knowledge of W&SFG products and markets, including product features, customer segments, and business-unit goals and perspectives.
  • Develop understanding of the goals and perspectives of Insurance Operations, Information Technology, Legal, Compliance, Corporate Accounting and Planning, and state insurance departments.
  • Develop knowledge of actuarial and accounting principles, including STAT and GAAP valuation concepts, DAC amortization and RBC.
  • Analyze contract-holder experience, expense and asset data and set associated assumptions for product development, cash-flow testing, financial projections, and valuation or reserve calculations.
  • Assist with profit and risk analyses, including cash-flow testing, and assist with product-feature design.
  • Provide precise and detailed specifications to Information Systems and product-implementation areas for new or modified products and financial reporting systems.
  • Assist in preparing criteria lists for testing administrative and illustration systems.
  • Assist in preparing actuarial memorandums for new-product filings, valuation and reserve-adequacy analysis, and responses to insurance-department queries.
  • Develop in-depth understanding of project topics to apply appropriate methods and analysis to current and future related projects.
  • Learn standards issued by the Actuarial Standards Board and other applicable bodies, including the Securities and Exchange Commission and Accounting Standards Board, along with state and federal regulatory requirements.
  • Document projects in writing according to established guidelines.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
  • Comply with all policies and standards.
