About the company

VREY is a Berlin PropTech company that helps landlords enable solar power for multi-family buildings. It handles planning, installing photovoltaic systems, and the operational setup, including a digital platform that automates legally compliant billing to tenants. As a metering point operator (wMSB), it also manages contracts with other energy providers, removing the supplier obligation from landlords and allowing tenants to buy solar energy directly (potentially lowering bills by up to 20%). Its goal is to scale communal solar use, support building decarbonization, and increase property value through tenant-accessible clean energy.

What believers are saying

  • VREY closed a €3.3 million seed round on April 23, 2026.
  • VREY reported a three-digit project pipeline across all 16 German federal states.
  • Germany's §42b framework reduces landlord supplier obligations, expanding VREY's addressable market.

What critics are saying

  • metergrid raised €10 million in January 2026, crushing VREY's financing disadvantage.
  • §42b EnWG still excludes subsidies, squeezing VREY margins and slowing landlord adoption.
  • If tenant churn or project delays hit, VREY's 20-person team burns seed capital fast.

What makes VREY unique

  • RE Joule GmbH pairs certified smart metering with automated billing for §42b EnWG.
  • VREY targets Germany's underserved multi-family solar market, not single-family rooftop installs.
  • Founders Julius Pahmeier and Cedric Jaeger launched VREY in Berlin in 2024.

VREY raises $3.7M to bring solar power to urban multi-family buildings

Berlin-based startup VREY has secured €3.3 million in seed financing to scale its solar power solutions for multi-family homes. The company specialises in bringing photovoltaic systems directly to urban residential buildings. VREY is already active in over 200 buildings, demonstrating early traction in the multi-family housing sector. The funding will support the company's expansion efforts as it works to increase solar power adoption in urban residential properties. The investment highlights growing interest in decentralised renewable energy solutions for apartment buildings, where traditional solar installations have historically been more challenging to implement compared to single-family homes.
