- A high school diploma, equivalent education such as a General Educational Development certificate, or post-secondary education.
- Two years of experience in a clerical environment, preferably in a healthcare environment.
- Perform as a cross-trained, multifunctional team member of the office practice.
- Ensure accurate and timely charge capture and billing of office visits and inpatient charges, front-office assistant responsibilities, precertification, scheduling, and other assigned administrative functions.
- Collect physician and technical superbills or rounding sheets daily.
- Enter and verify patient demographics and insurance information.
- Verify medical benefits and obtain preauthorization.
- Perform cross-trained billing-cycle functions, including charge capture, insurance, collections, and payment processing, including outsourced receivables.
- Surgery scheduling experience.
- Experience in a medical office setting.
- Ability to read and understand medical record charts.
- Basic typing skills.
- Knowledge of current International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision and Current Procedural Terminology codes.
- Ability to manage personal and others' time.
- Basic math skills.
