Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Engineering, or Science is required.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience is required for the intermediate professional level, or at least 5 years for the advanced professional level.
  • Applicants must understand finite element analysis principles and analytical tools used in structural analysis.
  • Applicants must understand structural analysis and mechanical design principles.
  • Experience with finite element analysis tools such as ANSYS, Abaqus, or SolidWorks Simulation is required.
  • Experience with computer-aided design software such as Unigraphics, Siemens NX, SolidWorks, or Creo is required.
  • Applicants must be able to communicate technical theories and results effectively in writing and presentations.
  • Applicants must have demonstrated success writing white papers or reports.
  • Applicants must have strong problem-solving skills.
  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens and eligible to obtain a government security clearance.
  • Applicants must participate in the ARL drug testing program and comply with applicable electronic and physical monitoring requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Perform structural analysis using analytical methods and finite element analysis tools to evaluate mechanical components, assemblies, and systems.
  • Develop, validate, and improve mechanical designs from concept through production.
  • Collaborate with research and development, manufacturing, and testing teams to resolve structural or mechanical challenges.
  • Support prototype builds, design reviews, and design-for-manufacturing activities.
  • Identify opportunities for performance improvement, weight reduction, cost reduction, and increased reliability.
Desired Qualifications
  • A master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Experience with dynamic, thermal, or fatigue analysis of complex engineering systems is preferred.
  • Knowledge of material selection, manufacturing processes, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing is preferred.
  • Familiarity with testing and validation methods for structural components is preferred.
  • Current eligibility for access to classified information at the Secret level or higher is preferred.
