Requirements
  • Active AFC, ChFC, or CFP certification.
  • U.S. citizenship and fluent English communication.
  • A bachelor's degree, or a combination of education and experience that equips the individual to serve as a financial counselor.
  • Ability to obtain a favorably adjudicated Tier 1 investigation.
  • More than 1,000 hours of financial counseling experience.
Responsibilities
  • Provide personal financial counseling and management services directly to adults, children, and youth of service members.
  • Provide individualized financial counseling and assistance to service members and families.
  • Assist service members in establishing an extended absence financial plan.
  • Develop and make available informational financial materials to service members and families.
  • Coordinate, publicize, and provide financial management classes and workshops across the military lifecycle, including arrival at a first duty station, pre- and post-deployment, and personal and career events outlined in Department of Defense Instruction 1322.34.
  • Respond to requests for age-appropriate classes or seminars for youth and teens as part of on-base education.
  • Use virtual counseling and other communication modes, such as secure online chat, video-based communications, and secure video teleconference, as an adjunct to face-to-face counseling when service members and families cannot attend in person.
  • Manage duty-to-warn and restricted-reporting situations according to Department of War protocol and staff cases with leadership.
  • Communicate with leadership and participate in regular individual and group supervision, sharing information about trends and issues at assigned installations.
  • Participate in regular in-service training, quality-improvement committees, and other contract activities as assigned or appropriate.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
