Avoca AI provides an AI-powered communications platform designed for service-based businesses like HVAC and plumbing. Its core product uses an AI workforce to handle inbound and outbound communications across phone calls, texts, web chats, and lead sources, including first-ring call answering, 24/7 appointment booking into a company’s CRM (such as ServiceTitan), and handoffs to human agents for complex cases. The platform integrates with existing systems to support lead capture, follow-up, and outbound outreach, and it includes an AI coaching module that analyzes calls to deliver performance insights and training ideas for human agents. Avoca aims to reduce missed leads, increase conversions, and improve team performance by automating communications while providing managers with actionable coaching data.

What believers are saying

  • Avoca raised over $125 million on April 27, 2026, led by Meritech and General Catalyst.
  • Y Combinator, Kleiner Perkins, and ServiceTitan partnerships validate distribution and product credibility.
  • The company says it is on track to book $1 billion in jobs during 2026.

What critics are saying

  • OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic commoditize voice agents, forcing Avoca into price competition by 2027.
  • Avoca's $1 billion valuation and 2026 growth expectations create brutal execution pressure if bookings slow.
  • Enterprise dependence on ServiceTitan and trade platforms creates existential platform risk if partners launch rivals.

What makes Avoca AI unique

  • Avoca's ServiceTitan integration books jobs directly from calls, texts, and chats, reducing workflow friction.
  • Its three-product stack, Convert, Nurture, and Coach, spans acquisition, scheduling, and rep training.
  • Home-services specialization targets high-value HVAC and plumbing leads where one missed call loses thousands.

MIT poker night leads to $1B AI startup serving HVAC companies

Avoca, an AI startup founded by MIT engineers Tyson Chen and Apurva Shrivastava, has raised $125 million and achieved a $1 billion valuation by selling AI call support to blue-collar businesses. The founders initially built AI phone answering systems for restaurants before pivoting to HVAC companies after meeting Rescue Air. The company's business model capitalises on higher transaction values in home services, where a missed call could mean losing a $30,000–$40,000 HVAC installation versus a $40 restaurant order. Avoca's AI representatives answer calls instantly and operate 24/7, enabling businesses to extend service hours without additional staff. The startup is betting on continued human demand for tradespeople whilst AI handles administrative tasks. The HVAC market is projected to reach $445.73 billion by 2033.
