Requirements

  • An active TS/SCI clearance with adjudicated polygraph is required.
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in machine learning, computer science, mathematics, or a related field is required.
  • At least 10 years of experience, preferably in software development or as a data scientist, including at least 2 years building large language model applications, is required.
  • Experience with fine-tuning foundation models, steering techniques such as sparse autoencoders and representation tuning, or building adapters for foundation models using tools such as PEFT and Llama Factory is required.
  • Experience with prompt engineering or inference-time techniques such as chain of thought and tree of thoughts is required.
  • Experience using retrieval-augmented generation to populate and query vector databases such as Weaviate or Pinecone is required.
  • Experience using large language model frameworks such as LangChain or DSPy is required.
  • Experience using AI application programming interfaces such as AWS Bedrock or OpenAI is required.
  • Experience using large language model deployment frameworks such as llama.cpp, vLLM, or TGI is required.
  • Experience developing user interfaces with ReAct is required.
  • Experience leading an interdisciplinary team of researchers and software developers and working with a program manager to define project scope and schedule and meet customer milestones is required.
  • Experience with Python and data science or machine learning libraries such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras, OpenCV, NumPy, Pandas, Polars, or scikit-learn is required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of developers and researchers implementing machine learning algorithms to solve challenges for customers.
  • Apply large language models to remote sensing applications, including tasking collections, identifying gaps in collection plans, and analyzing patterns of life.
  • Fine-tune foundation models and build adapters for new applications using tools such as Llama Factory and PEFT.
  • Apply retrieval-augmented generation techniques to data to populate and query vector databases such as Weaviate.
  • Build custom applications with large language model frameworks such as LangChain and DSPy.
  • Deploy large language model solutions across cloud-based and local resources using Kubernetes and tools such as llama.cpp and vLLM.
  • Analyze large multidomain image, text, and graph datasets to identify statistically relevant features and build models that provide analysts with actionable data.
  • Review relevant publications to understand and apply emerging concepts to defense and commercial applications.
  • Communicate technical status to internal and external leadership.

Desired Qualifications

  • A Master of Science or PhD in machine learning, computer science, mathematics, or a related field.
  • Experience leading an interdisciplinary team of researchers and software developers.
  • Experience with computer vision domains, including large language models and identifying new applications for them; applying transformer-based architectures outside natural language processing, such as in computer vision; object detection algorithms such as YOLO and Faster R-CNN; natural language processing algorithms such as BERT; generative adversarial networks and variational autoencoders; reinforcement learning with Gymnasium Gym, RLlib, or Stable Baselines; applying clustering algorithms or deep neural networks to real-world problems; and implementing tracking and pattern-of-life algorithms.
