Requirements
  • Graduated from an accredited nursing program within the past 12 months.
  • Must obtain a nursing license within 90 days of employment.
  • Must maintain required credentials or certifications in active and valid status, including timely renewals.
  • Must pass the Ishihara color blindness test as a condition of employment, with reasonable accommodations considered if needed.
  • Must be capable of handling demanding situations, multitasking, and adapting to changing needs.
  • Must maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Must be able to perform direct patient care involving heavy lifting, moving patients, assisting with ambulation, prolonged standing, bending, and pushing or pulling equipment.
  • Must be able to lift and lower solutions frequently up to 30 pounds and occasionally up to 40 pounds as high as 5 feet.
  • May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases or materials.
Responsibilities
  • Provide safe and effective hemodialysis therapy as part of the health care team under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse while working toward nursing licensure.
  • Perform pre-treatment vascular access evaluations.
  • Perform and record pre- and post-dialysis evaluations, weights, and vital signs with initial patient identification.
  • Perform vascular access cannulation and report cannulation difficulties or unusual findings to the nurse supervisor.
  • Initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders, including blood flow and dialysate flow.
  • Evaluate intradialytic problems and provide interventions as prescribed by physician orders or directed by the nurse.
  • Monitor patients' responses to dialysis therapy.
  • Obtain vital signs before reinfusion, complete treatment discontinuation functions, and document appropriately.
  • Evaluate patients before termination of venous access, including standing and sitting blood pressure measurements.
  • Obtain hemostasis and apply appropriate dressings.
  • Evaluate patients before discharge.
  • Document patient treatment information in the patient health record.
  • Report significant information or changes in patient condition directly to the nurse supervisor.
  • Perform and document interventions for unusual patient status and document patient responses.
  • Obtain prescribed laboratory tests and prepare specimens for collection.
  • Prepare for dialysis treatments and document preparation activities.
  • Maintain safe and clean environmental conditions.
  • Clean and disinfect dialysis machine surfaces, chairs, equipment, and surrounding areas between treatments according to facility policy.
  • Perform required pretreatment dialysis machine setup and testing.
  • Clean blood spills immediately with appropriate disinfectants according to facility policy.
  • Prepare, organize, and efficiently use supplies and equipment to prevent waste.
  • Enter treatment data accurately and promptly into the designated clinical application.
  • Review health care records for completeness and complete or correct omitted entries where appropriate.
  • Prepare laboratory requisitions for prescribed or stat specimens according to laboratory destination.
  • Collect, label, prepare, and store laboratory samples according to laboratory specifications.
  • Ensure laboratory specimens are collected by the appropriate courier.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
