Requirements
  • CST I candidates must have a high school diploma.
  • CST I candidates must graduate from an accredited school of surgical technology or a surgical technology military program.
  • CST II candidates must have a high school diploma.
  • CST II candidates must graduate from an accredited school of surgical technology or a surgical technology military program.
  • CST II candidates must have at least one year of work experience as a Certified Surgical Technologist.
  • Candidates must hold and maintain the Certified Surgical Technologist credential administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.
  • Candidates must hold a current cardiopulmonary resuscitation card, either an American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers card or an American Red Cross Professional Rescuer card.
  • Candidates must be able to perform the physical functions required for the role, including standing, walking, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, fine and gross motor activities, and maintaining required vision and hearing.
  • Candidates must be able to deal effectively with stressful situations, work rotating shifts, and work overtime as required.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare sterile supplies and equipment used in surgical procedures.
  • Perform operating-room duties involved with direct patient care while following established procedural guidelines.
  • Function as a member of the operating-room team and, at the CST II level, work autonomously.
  • Assist providers and nurses with vaginal deliveries, restock supplies, manage instrument flow, and provide front-desk customer service and engagement.
  • Apply surgical knowledge and skills to emergency situations and assess the needs of patients and surgeons during procedures.
