Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited school of pharmacy is required.
  • Strong computer skills are required.
  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English with patients, visitors, and fellow hospital team members for safety and quality reasons.
  • Valid licensure as a pharmacist in Massachusetts is required, with no pending infractions against held licensures, or license eligibility with the license obtained within four months of employment.
Responsibilities
  • Review and interpret physician orders, dispense medications, monitor drug therapies, and provide accurate and timely drug information while complying with legal and practice standards.
  • Dispense inpatient and outpatient medications; monitor dosage, drug interactions, allergies, and therapy appropriateness while accounting for patient age and type.
  • Promote communication, collaboration, and problem-solving with healthcare team members, patients, and family members or significant others.
  • Demonstrate clinical expertise in the assigned area and foster clinical and professional excellence.
  • Consult with providers about therapy requiring clarification and discuss appropriate therapy or alternatives when non-formulary or target drugs are prescribed.
  • Maintain patient medication records.
  • Process STAT medication orders completely and promptly.
  • Prepare or oversee preparation of intravenous fluids, including potential nutrition solutions, chemotherapy, intravenous solutions, intravenous piggybacks, and irrigation solutions, observing aseptic technique standards.
  • Ensure products are labeled correctly.
  • Prepare and dispense controlled substances accurately and maintain records according to state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Enter dispensing data into the Meditech Pharmacy module and Pyxis distribution system.
  • Direct and oversee pharmacy technicians' work, audit their work, and verify they operate within their scope of practice.
  • Participate in educating pharmacist students on rotation.
  • Complete required documentation accurately, legibly, and on time.
  • Cover other departments, including Employee Pharmacy and Oncology, as needed based on staffing needs.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited school of pharmacy is preferred.
  • At least one year of experience in an institutional setting is preferred.
  • Ability to enter data and maintain systems used to execute medication orders is preferred.
  • EPIC Willow or Beacon experience is preferred.
  • Experience working in a USP 797/800-compliant sterile compounding environment is preferred.

Beth Israel Lahey Health rolls out Heidi's AI scribing to all physicians after 90% report better patient presence

Beth Israel Lahey Health is rolling out Heidi's ambient AI scribing tool to all its physicians following a successful trial across its facilities. The health system, which serves over 6,000 providers across 14 hospitals and 175 primary care practices, prioritises addressing physician burnout, with nearly half of US physicians reporting burnout. During a six-month trial offering Heidi to 1,000 providers, the majority adopted the technology. Survey results showed 89% were satisfied with note quality, 90% felt more present with patients, 74% reduced after-hours work time, and 82% experienced reduced cognitive load during visits. The implementation demonstrates how ambient AI can deliver immediate relief to physicians whilst benefiting patients and the healthcare system. Heidi supports over 2 million consultations weekly globally and has raised $96.6 million from investors including Point72 Private Investments and Blackbird.
