Requirements
  • Current ARDMS and/or Registered Vascular Technologist registration, or eligibility for registration.
  • Knowledge of human gross and sectional anatomy and the sonographic appearance of normal and abnormal tissue structures.
  • Ability to obtain and record patient history and clinical data.
  • Ability to use appropriate scanning protocols and adjust technical factors according to age-specific needs.
  • Ability to select the appropriate transducer, power output, and instrument gain for patient size, age, and procedure.
  • Ability to interact with the interpreting physician and provide a written or oral summary of technical findings.
  • Ability to follow hospital policies, professional standards, privacy and confidentiality requirements, and safety procedures.
Responsibilities
  • Produce diagnostic images of organs, tissues, and blood flow using high-frequency sound waves and other diagnostic techniques.
  • Obtain and record patient history and clinical data.
  • Use appropriate scanning protocols to demonstrate and evaluate necessary anatomy.
  • Adjust technical factors according to age-specific needs.
  • Select the appropriate transducer, power output, and instrument gain for each patient and procedure.
  • Recognize the sonographic appearance of normal and abnormal tissue structures.
  • Interact with the interpreting physician and provide a written or oral summary of technical findings.
  • Promote a clean and safe environment of care while following hospital safety and conduct standards.
