About the Company

GM Financial

Finances GM vehicles for buyers and dealers

GM Financial is the lending arm of General Motors, financing the Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac vehicles that people buy or lease at GM dealerships. GM bought the company in 2010 to rebuild an in-house lender, four years after selling control of its original finance arm, which became Ally Financial. Shoppers sign loans or leases at the dealership, and GM Financial earns interest on the loans and monthly payments on the leased cars, which it owns and resells when leases end. It also lends dealers money to stock their lots and run their stores, and it operates in Canada, Latin America, and, through joint ventures, China. It began lending in 1992 and is based in Fort Worth, Texas.
