Requirements
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Must currently be enrolled in the Hiring Our Heroes SkillBridge program.
  • Must meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including passing the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire or transfer and every two years thereafter.
  • Citizenship will be verified with a valid passport because the position supports government agency customers and is subject to citizenship-based restrictions.
  • Must have authorization to work in the United States that does not now or in the future require employer sponsorship.
  • Must be able to work 12-hour shifts, including evening, nighttime, weekend, and/or holiday assignments.
  • Must be able to meet physical requirements, including occasional ladder climbing and lifting 50 pounds; frequent stair or ramp climbing; prolonged standing; occasional assisted pushing or pulling of 50–75 pounds; normal corrected visual acuity; and normal color vision for electrical work.
  • Must be able to work for extended periods under elevated ambient noise, heat, and light in data center environments.
Responsibilities
  • Follow safety, security, business processes, and procedures in accordance with applicable Authority Having Jurisdiction regulations and Microsoft requirements; recognize and respond to unsafe conditions, escalate hazards, participate in meetings and training, assess resources and equipment for environmental health and safety objectives, and maintain safe working conditions for self and others.
  • Prepare and submit turnover and preventative-maintenance reports using scripts, templates, or ad hoc methods to support trending and analysis; develop methods of procedure, standard operating procedures, and digital methods of operating procedures; document completed work; support less experienced technicians with mandatory, technical, and procedural training; and analyze findings and observations.
  • Perform planned, predictive, and corrective maintenance and repairs across multiple disciplines, including electrical, mechanical, and cooling systems, with minimal supervision and in accordance with applicable procedures, hazard analyses, method statements, and permit requirements; prioritize and document work, follow maintenance schedules, oversee tasks within a discipline, and maintain equipment safely.
  • Escort contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and service providers; ensure third-party work is properly started and completed safely, within scope, and with correct documentation; stop work when needed; coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance; recommend procedure corrections; schedule vendor activities; and review work orders and field service reports or invoices.
  • Process method statements of work, coordinate contractor schedules, inspect facility equipment, and participate in testing and commissioning.
  • Document troubleshooting issues, ensure equipment settings meet established parameters and designs, assess when troubleshooting is adequate, escalate to suppliers, engineers, or experienced colleagues, troubleshoot to subsystem level, advise less experienced colleagues, and potentially lead troubleshooting and root-cause identification.
  • Independently handle advanced tasks such as vendor contact and escalations; serve as a subject matter expert in critical environment systems; operate equipment across a discipline with awareness of system interactions and overall data center operations; and advise less experienced colleagues.
  • Inspect and supervise critical environment facility equipment, buildings, and grounds for abnormal conditions; analyze trends and alarms; validate equipment performance; monitor equipment from central operations locations; escalate issues; use telemetry, control systems, and other platforms to monitor status and identify alarms; diagnose trends and potential issues; advise colleagues; and perform monitoring equipment repair, replacement, and maintenance to meet or exceed service-level requirements.
  • Use the computerized maintenance management system to track equipment assets and work orders; track task hours; maintain building management system data, documents, logs, procedures, and reports; and record spare equipment and parts use in work orders.
  • Respond safely and quickly to onsite incidents, lead incident response, coordinate corrective repairs with critical facilities professionals, gather information and create timelines, root-cause analyses, and action items, engage appropriate parties to mitigate incidents, develop or follow emergency operating procedures and other operating procedures, and provide emergency monitoring response to irregular or malfunctioning conditions.
  • Travel periodically to support other metros, up to 25% of the time.
Desired Qualifications
  • Associate's degree or technical trade certification, or equivalent higher education; alternatively, a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent with at least one year of technical services experience in high-availability assembly, manufacturing, critical infrastructure environments such as data centers, oil and gas refineries, hospitals, or pharmaceutical settings, or equivalent experience.

Microsoft tops Accenture as AI infrastructure scales faster than consulting services

Accenture reported revenue of nearly $74.2 billion for fiscal year 2026, up 6.5% year-over-year, with net income of roughly $8.5 billion. The professional services firm serves approximately 9,000 clients globally with 814,000 employees. Microsoft generated revenue of nearly $331.8 billion in FY 2026, a 17.8% increase, with net income of approximately $133.7 billion. The company's net margin reached close to 40.3%. Both companies maintained a debt-to-equity ratio of approximately 0.3x. Microsoft's free cash flow reached nearly $67.0 billion, whilst Accenture's was roughly $11.6 billion. Accenture recently addressed a $25 million settlement with the Department of Justice regarding federal contracting practices. Microsoft faces securities fraud class action lawsuits involving AI and Copilot claims, alongside antitrust scrutiny and an IRS tax audit.

Excel Canvas uses Copilot to auto-generate reports from spreadsheet data

Microsoft is rolling out Excel Canvas through October, a feature that transforms spreadsheet data into polished reports with visualisations, metrics, and insights. The reports automatically refresh when underlying data changes. Users need access to Copilot in Excel and can customise reports using natural language prompts. The feature enters a crowded market of dashboard tools. The rollout follows mixed reception for recent Excel updates. Last week, Microsoft added a feature allowing multiple values in single cells. Earlier this year, a Copilot Dynamic Action Button faced user backlash, forcing Microsoft to make it removable. The company also abandoned the COPILOT() function in August, barely 12 months after its introduction.

LinkedIn ex-CEO Ryan Roslansky to leave Microsoft in 2026 amid executive departures

Ryan Roslansky, Microsoft's executive vice president and former LinkedIn CEO, will leave the company at the end of 2026. Roslansky, who joined LinkedIn in 2009 and became CEO in 2020, cited family ties to the San Francisco Bay Area as his reason for departing. He will remain as an adviser to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella through December. His exit follows a string of executive departures at Microsoft, including gaming chief Phil Spencer and Office executive Rajesh Jha. Roslansky moved into Microsoft 365 oversight earlier this year after Dan Shapero became LinkedIn's CEO. During Roslansky's six-year tenure leading LinkedIn, membership grew from 700 million to 1.3 billion users. LinkedIn posted 11% revenue growth for Microsoft's most recent fiscal year.

askpolly, an AI-powered market research platform, has integrated with Microsoft Copilot Cowork, allowing companies to combine social insights with sales data without uploading sensitive information to the cloud. The Ottawa-based company converts organic social media conversations into statistically valid market research in as little as two minutes. Through askpolly's API, users can merge social data with sales information directly within Microsoft Dynamics 365, Power BI, or Copilot. The platform filters out bots, influencers, and paid content before creating representative samples matched to census demographics, with underlying data refreshing every 24 hours. Anyone with a current Copilot subscription can download askpolly through Microsoft Marketplace. The platform is trusted by more than 200 companies for audience analysis, message testing, and sales forecasting.

Elizabeth Warren demands answers as Amazon, Google, Meta and Microsoft claim $96B in AI tax breaks

Senator Elizabeth Warren is demanding answers from Amazon, Google, Meta, and Microsoft over $96 billion in lost federal revenue from AI-related tax breaks. Despite reporting massive revenues in Q2 2026, the tech giants saw significant tax reductions last year. Amazon paid $7.8 billion less in tax, Meta nearly $7 billion less, whilst Microsoft and Alphabet each qualified for roughly $19 billion in tax cuts. The companies are benefiting from provisions in Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill Act, including 100% bonus depreciation for AI data centres and expanded R&D tax credits. Corporate tax revenues have dropped 23% this year, largely due to these AI tax breaks. Warren and fellow lawmakers have sent letters to the companies' CEOs questioning the tax breaks and their lobbying efforts, arguing the costs have been imposed on American families through cuts to Social Security and other programmes.
