Requirements
  • A diploma in Recreation and Leisure Studies, Therapeutic Recreation, Kinesiology, or equivalent is required.
  • Experience in a social services or long-term care setting is an asset.
  • Experience and skills in facilitating activation and therapeutic recreation programs, preferably with the geriatric population, are required.
  • Creativity and innovativeness in developing meaningful programs for clients within a tight budget are required.
  • Computer literacy is required.
  • A current CPR Certificate is required.
  • A current Food Handler Safety Certificate is required.
  • A satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Screen is required.
  • The ability to communicate in English and Chinese is required.
  • Some lifting and transfer are required.
  • Use of one's own vehicle is required.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct timely and accurate assessments of residents upon admission and quarterly, and prepare and monitor the effectiveness of care plans.
  • Plan and implement regular and seasonal recreational and social activities, including one-on-one, small-group, and large-group activities, in a safe, hygienic, and supportive environment.
  • Assist the Activation Manager in supervising volunteers who assist with or facilitate activation programming.
  • Mentor and work effectively with students and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Maintain and update resident records.
  • Work with staff from other disciplines in the long-term care home to provide quality care to residents.
  • Shop for cost-effective and appropriate program supplies and maintain accurate records of fees and expenditures.
  • Assist the Activation Manager in providing information and education to residents and family members, including hand-hygiene workshops.
  • Participate in in-service programs and professional development.
  • Keep up to date with developments and best practices in the field.
  • Travel occasionally within the Greater Toronto Area.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Chinese word processing is an asset.
