About the job

Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree, or equivalent practical experience, in computer science, engineering, machine learning, or a related field.
  • Four years of work experience as a software engineer or equivalent, excluding internships.
  • Experience building and operating production infrastructure on AWS, including expertise with cross-account roles, STS, resource and key policies, KMS, and multi-account organizations.
  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code such as Terraform at multi-account scale, including secure patterns for networks, IAM, and shared services.
  • A rigorous approach to multi-tenant isolation.
  • A track record of owning complex, production-critical systems end to end.
  • Strong production-grade coding skills in Python, Rust, or similar.
Responsibilities
  • Build and operate the cloud infrastructure responsible for training and serving customer models.
  • Design and enable boundaries that keep each customer's data, training runs, and models separate on the cloud and on Engram-managed bare-metal compute.
  • Partner with researchers and engineers on paved roads that improve isolation and security posture.
  • Evaluate and secure providers and tools, including Modal, Baseten, and Fireworks, as well as bare-metal or Kubernetes compute.
  • Lead security operations and customer trust by maintaining logging and monitoring, responding to incidents, and bringing clarity to security reviews and compliance work.
  • Ship code as well as configuration.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience as an early infrastructure or security hire at a startup.
  • Experience with machine-learning infrastructure, such as GPU training and model serving.
  • Experience supporting enterprise security reviews and compliance programs such as SOC 2.
  • Open-source contributions, talks, or writing on cloud or infrastructure security.
  • Experience on Azure or GCP.

About the company

Engram Lab builds AI systems that learn from a user's context to understand their work. Its core product is a learned memory layer that separates organizational knowledge from model reasoning so enterprise AI workloads don’t reprocess full context for every query. The company starts from strong pre-trained models and trains on the customer’s context, making the models token-efficient and able to draw connections across documents, workflows, and institutional knowledge. Its goal is to continually absorb data with a single training algorithm, aiming to retrain hourly (and eventually every minute) to reduce inference costs and improve personalization for large enterprise LLM workloads.

What believers are saying

  • June 2026, Engram raised $98 million from Sequoia, Kleiner Perkins, and General Catalyst.
  • Microsoft committed GPU capacity across Dapple and Azure for Engram training.
  • Notion reported order-of-magnitude token savings using Engram inside custom agents.

What critics are saying

  • Engram had no public product in June 2026, so adoption depends on pilots.
  • Microsoft, Notion, and Harvey build internal alternatives, collapsing Engram's distribution by 2027.
  • Hourly and minute-level retraining demands unsolved scaling; failure kills the thesis.

What makes Engram Lab unique

  • June 2026, Engram's learned memory layer compresses organizational context into reusable model memory.
  • Microsoft 365, Notion, and Harvey already test Engram across enterprise workflows.
  • The 13-person research team includes Stanford's Chris Ré and memory specialist Natalie Biderman.
