About the Job

Requirements

  • Develop production ingestion pipelines for large datasets, including data quality controls and service-level agreements.
  • Have experience building multi-tenant or multi-account analytics platforms with consistent schemas and performance constraints.
  • Have experience implementing cost or usage analytics, telemetry, observability, billing, metering, FinOps, or data platforms.
  • Have experience shipping full-stack application programming interfaces and user interfaces relied on by users.
  • Have experience leading architecture decisions and influencing team standards through design documents, reviews, or migration strategies.
  • Have experience working with Cost and Usage Reports or exports, commitment models, allocation, tagging or labels, and reconciliation.
  • Apply systems thinking to optimize end-to-end flows for reliability, cost, and usability.
  • Ensure data is credible, explainable, and defensible.
  • Build product-focused engineering solutions for users.
  • Choose pragmatic, scalable approaches and avoid over-engineering.
  • Improve engineering through coaching, standards, and clear communication.
  • Engineer production-grade ingestion, normalization, and analytics components for multi-cloud billing data.
  • Build reliable, scalable, cost-efficient systems and deliver backend services and modern user interfaces.
  • Work with Python and TypeScript; relevant technologies include FastAPI, Flask, Django, microservices, event-driven patterns, Spark, PySpark, Dask, serverless ETL, Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Synapse, Lakehouse patterns, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, CDK, Pulumi, tracing, metrics, logs, service-level objectives, and cloud billing constructs and application programming interfaces.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and build ingestion, normalization, and analytics components for multi-cloud billing data.
  • Lead reviews and establish engineering practices for reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency.
  • Deliver high-quality backend services and modern user-interface experiences for FinOps users.
  • Partner with FinOps Reporting and Analytics, Product, and Cloud Engineering to build the roadmap and ensure correctness.
  • Mentor engineers through code reviews, pairing, design guidance, and technical standards.
  • Build ingestion services for high-volume cloud billing data, with clear service-level agreements, retries, alerts, data-quality checks, lineage, schema-drift detection, late-arriving-data handling, idempotency, and repeatable backfills.
  • Develop a unified cross-cloud cost schema that supports allocation through tags, labels, custom dimensions, shared-cost modeling, and business mappings; maintain semantic definitions, schema versioning, and backward compatibility.
  • Optimize analytics pipelines for interactive exploration, anomaly-detection workflows, and scalable query performance; integrate with a warehouse or Lakehouse.
  • Build backend services in Python and stable analytics and allocation APIs; deliver a TypeScript interface using React or Next.js with performant tables, explorers, and filters.
  • Establish microservice, application programming interface, data-modeling, and distributed-system standards; improve observability, security, governance, role-based access control, auditing, encryption, and least-privilege access.
  • Apply FinOps principles to the platform and supervise and optimize infrastructure costs.
  • Support cloud-provider billing capabilities, including AWS Cost and Usage Report files in S3, Cost Explorer APIs, Cost Categories, Reserved Instance and Savings Plans coverage, Azure Cost Management exports and APIs, enterprise agreement billing constructs, and Google Cloud BigQuery billing export tables and cost APIs.
  • Handle terabyte-scale billing datasets using partitioning, compaction, and backfills; define freshness, compute-cost, and query-performance service-level objectives.
  • Ensure cost allocation accuracy, reconciliation, clear source-of-truth definitions, dashboard and query compatibility, and timely data freshness.
  • Ship end-user capabilities that improve FinOps workflows, adoption, repeat usage, and reduce manual reporting effort.
  • Reduce production incidents through blameless postmortems and preventive actions; ensure engineering guidelines are reflected in pull-request quality.
