Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED with three or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience working with at-risk or homeless young females is strongly preferred, and interest in working with this population is required.
  • An 8-hour security license is required; Covenant House will provide it to candidates who accept employment and do not have the license.
  • Strong multitasking skills with the demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects at once are required.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and problem-solving abilities are required.
  • The ability and willingness to move throughout the day is required.
  • A strong focus on child protection and ensuring resident safety is required.
  • The ability to work in a rapidly changing environment where processes and protocols are being developed and refined is required.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct engagement, supervision, and support to youth residing in shelters.
  • Maintain an environment that reflects Covenant House's mission, vision, and five principles.
  • Ensure floors and rooms are clean, safe, well-lit, and serviceable throughout residents' stays.
  • Monitor program and client activities to maintain a safe and secure environment, including securing the unit during altercations, conducting policy-compliant room searches, and assisting with evacuations during drills and emergencies.
  • Welcome youth to the floor and orient them to floor expectations, the mission statement, and the five principles.
  • Assist youth with preparing for the day and support life skills such as laundry, ironing, and cleaning.
  • Support Case Managers by distributing appointment slips, following up on appointments, collecting and filing paperwork, and assisting with file maintenance and compliance.
  • Maintain an understanding of each youth's service plan.
  • Maintain ETO records and document youth activities and meaningful interactions using the S.O.A.P. format.
  • Escort youth to other agencies and services when necessary, including hospitals and mass transit.
  • Conduct room searches after emergency evacuations to ensure all residents have safely left the floor.
  • Create a sanctuary for youth on the floor.
  • Provide direct support and monitoring while escorting youth to clothing rooms, the cafeteria, recreation, groups, and special events.
  • Directly engage with youth at all service levels and maintain a presence where the youth are.
  • Maintain healthy relationships with youth while observing boundaries and mutual respect.
  • Conduct nightly meetings focused on the mission and principles, motivation, mutual support, and community building.
  • Conduct workshops on life-skill topics including hygiene, anger management, self-esteem, problem-solving, cleaning, and laundry.
  • Complete incident reports fully and correctly by the end of each shift and submit them to the appropriate parties.
  • Participate in required training, supervision, and staff meetings.
  • Perform other assigned or needed duties.

  • A driver's license and comfort driving a seven-passenger van.
